Flagellar Pattern and Growth of Bacillus spp. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1960
SUMMARY: Observations by electron microscopy and by light microscopy of material stained to demonstrate flagella and cell walls, simultaneously, showed that in non-filamentous Bacillus spp. the flagella of growing bacilli were usually fully developed towards one pole, and developed on the other pole as the process of fission advanced.

Induction and Enhancement of Bacteriocin Production (Review)

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Conventionally, bacteriocins are produced by microorganisms on complex substrates, released as semi‐purified preparations or crude fermentates. These bacteriocin‐containing products often exhibit unsatisfactory purity, low active‐substance content, and high production costs, limiting their commercialization and use. This review aims to analyze

Carrion ecology: concepts, interdisciplinary synthesis, and perspectives

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Carrion is a ubiquitous resource in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, yet it has long been overlooked in ecological research. Over the past two decades, studies on carrion and the many organisms that exploit it have flourished, revealing not only wide‐ranging ecological functions but also significance far beyond ecology.

A case series of necrotizing periodontal diseases in hospitalized patients: What hasn't been said yet?

open access: yesClinical Advances in Periodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Necrotizing periodontal diseases (NPDs) are uncommon and severe inflammatory conditions characterized by tissue necrosis, painful ulceration, and rapid clinical progression, frequently associated with systemic immunosuppression. Limited data exist regarding their clinical presentation and management in hospital settings.

From patterns to predictions: a framework for the spatial epidemiology of wildlife diseases

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Wildlife diseases pose a significant threat to biodiversity conservation, public health, and livestock. Spatial epidemiology provides a robust framework to understand disease dynamics and guide policy and management. However, the rapid proliferation of spatial methods has largely occurred in isolation across disciplines, leaving the field without a ...

Physiological Responses, Growth, and Yield of Soybean (Glycine max L.) Between Rows of IP-1 Oil Palm in Response to Rhizobium sp. and Bacillus spp. Inoculation

open access: yesCaraka Tani: Journal of Sustainable Agriculture
The Indonesian population has not yet met the high demand for soybeans by domestic production. Researchers aim to increase soybean (Glycine max L.) production and optimize land use through intercropping with oil palm during the immature plant phase 1 (IP-

The gut microbiome and drug‐resistant epilepsy: Microbiome–antiseizure medication interactions and implications for pharmacoresistance

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE) affects approximately one‐third of patients with epilepsy and represents a major unmet clinical need. While traditional hypotheses of pharmacoresistance have focused on alterations in drug targets, efflux transporter overexpression, and intrinsic disease severity, the gut microbiome has recently emerged as a ...

Bacteremia in horses undergoing routine dental prophylaxis: Before, during, and after the procedure

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Transient bacteremia after dental procedures is well‐documented in the literature, but the prevalence and clinical significance in horses remains largely unexplored. Objectives To assess whether routine dental prophylaxis in clinically healthy horses is associated with detection of bacteria in blood, using culture and 16S rDNA ...
