Optical attenuation signatures of Bacillus subtillis in the THz region

Applied Physics Letters, 2004
This letter reports the use of a photomixing sweep oscillator to characterize samples of B. subtillis spores at room temperature between 200 and 1200 GHz. Dilute (10% by mass) and concentrated samples were tested, the former using fine-grained polyethylene powder as a low-loss dielectric matrix.

Characterization of a family 11 xylanase fromBacillus subtillisB230 used for paper bleaching

Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography, 2003
Enzymes such as family 11 xylanases are increasingly being used for industrial applications. Here, the cloning, structure determination and temperature-stability data of a family 11 xylanase, Xyn11X, from the alkali-tolerant Bacillus subtilis subspecies B230 are reported.

[Carbon assimilation and taxonomic study of Bacillus subtillis and B. licheniformis].

Canadian journal of microbiology, 1979
All 14 strains of B. subtilis can use the following 17 sources of carbon and energy: D-glucose, D-mannose, D-glucosamine, salicin, D-ribose, maltose, sucrose, cellobiose, trehalose, arbutin, starch, mannitol, glycerol, glycerate, pyruvate, fumarate, and L-proline. All 15 strains of B. licheniformis can use the following 41 sources of carbon and energy:

Development of the K-state (Competence) and Mutagenesis in Stressed Bacillus subtillis Cells

2016
Mutagenesis is central to the evolutionary process. We currently view evolution as a gradual process affecting all cells within a population. However, my project studied an underestimated part of the evolutionary process: mutations generated during stationary phase (caused by nutritional stress or growth arrest) within a subpopulation of cells.

Transcriptional responses of Bacillus subtillis and thuringiensis to antibiotics and anti-tumour drugs.

International journal of molecular medicine, 2009
DNA supercoiling is a major regulator of transcription in all organisms. This process is regulated by type I and type II DNA topoisomerases that are targets for microbial antibiotics and/or anti-tumour drugs. Despite extensive studies in this field, no information is available on the response of Bacillus (B) species to eukaryotic DNA topoisomerase ...
