Performance Improvement in Passive Backscatter Based RFID System with Low DCR Modulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents application of the low Duty Cycle Ratio (DCR) modulations: isochronous Digital Pulse Position Modulation (DPPM) and anisochronous Digital Pulse Interval Modulation (DPIM) in backscatter based passive RFID communication system.

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

On the Design of NOMA-Enhanced Backscatter Communication Systems

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and backscatter communication (BackCom) are two emerging technologies for low-power Internet of Things (IoT) applications. This paper addresses the performance of a monostatic BackCom system employing the hybrid time-

Many a Little Makes a Mickle: Probing Backscattering Energy Recycling for Backscatter Communications

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2023
In this paper, we investigate and analyze full-duplex-based backscatter communications with multiple backscatter devices (BDs). Different from previous works where only the energy from the energy source is harvested, BDs are also allowed to harvest energy from previous BDs by recycling the backscattering energy.

Mapping of Physiological Signals From Wireless Battery‐Free Implants With Plane‐Wave Ultrasound Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Combined approach of electromagnetic (Power) and ultrasound (data harvesting) waves is proposed to address the miniaturized ultrasonic implants. Electromagnetic waves trigger the piezoelectric element to generate the acoustic pulse which is modulated by the variations in the sensor's impedance.
