The Spatial Biology of HIV Transmission and Infection: Imaging the Female and Male Reproductive Tracts

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Reproductive Immunology, Volume 95, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT HIV transmission through the female and male reproductive tracts is governed by spatially organized interactions between virions, epithelial barriers, and tissue‐resident immune cells. Imaging approaches have been central to defining these earliest events, progressing from classical histology and immunohistochemistry (IHC) to modern ...

Genital Immune Correlates of Seroprevalent and Seroincident Herpes Simplex Type 2 Infection Among Women Who Sell Sex in Nairobi, Kenya

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Reproductive Immunology, Volume 95, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Problem Most Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV‐2) infection is asymptomatic but increases the risk of HIV acquisition, possibly due to alterations in genital immunology. We examine associations of HSV‐2 prevalence and incidence with epithelial barrier disruption. Method of Study The study was nested within the longitudinal Maisha Fiti cohort of

Effects of vaginal microbiota transfer on social–emotional and neurodevelopment in cesarean‐born infants: 12‐month follow‐up of a pilot randomized clinical trial

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 105, Issue 6, Page 1064-1074, June 2026.
In a pilot randomized clinical trial of cesarean‐born infants, vaginal microbiota transfer improved social–emotional development at 12 months, reducing social–emotional risk and improving key subdomains, while early neurodevelopmental benefits observed at 6 months were not sustained at 12 months. Abstract Introduction To evaluate the effects of vaginal

Sialidases (neuraminidases) in bacterial vaginosis and bacterial vaginosis-associated microflora [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1992
Bacterial vaginosis, Prevotella species, and Bacteroides species have been associated with prematurity and upper genital tract infection. Prevotella (Bacteroides) species and Bacteroides fragilis have also been associated with preterm birth. However, the mechanism by which lower genital tract infection causes upper genital tract disease remains poorly ...

Probiotic supplementation during pregnancy for vaginal microbiota improvement and pathogen clearance: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 105, Issue 6, Page 999-1016, June 2026.
Probiotic supplementation during pregnancy shows a modest, non‐robust increase in Group B Streptococcus decolonization, with no consistent benefit for bacterial vaginosis or vulvovaginal candidiasis. Probiotics may serve as a non‐antibiotic adjunct, but standardized regimens and ecological diagnostic frameworks are required.
