Ectopic Expression of Ralstonia solanacearum Effector Protein PopA Early in Invasion Results in Loss of Virulence

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2003
Ralstonia solanacearum OE1-1 (OE1-1) is pathogenic to tobacco. The type III-secreted effector protein popA of OE1-1 showed 97.6% identity to popA of R. solanacearum GMI1000, which is not pathogenic to tobacco.

Coniferyl aldehyde from the phenylpropanoid pathway targets pyruvate kinase in Dactylobotrys graminicola to confer sheath rot resistance in hulless barley

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Hulless barley resists the newly identified sheath rot disease caused by the necrotrophic fungal pathogen Dactylobotrys graminicola by releasing coniferyl aldehyde, a natural compound that disrupts energy production in the fungus. ABSTRACT Dactylobotrys graminicola (Dgr), a necrotrophic fungal pathogen, has recently been identified as the causative ...

Eggplant resistance to bacterial wilt and to Fusarium wilt: Is there a link? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
INRA URI 052 maintains a germplasm collection of S. melongena and related species. The accessions of this collection that are described in the literature as resistant to Ralstonia solanacearum, agent responsible ofbacterial wilt, were screened at plantlet stage against Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.

The ZmRACK1–ZmCDPK7–ZmAPX1 module regulates plant antiviral immunity

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
In maize, ZmRACK1 acts as a scaffold protein that bridges the cyclin‐dependent kinase ZmCDPK7 and the ascorbate peroxidase ZmAPX1, promoting ZmAPX1 activity to mitigate MCMV infection. Upon viral infection, P31 obstructs formation of the ZmRACK1‐ZmCDPK7‐ZmAPX1 complex, inhibiting ZmCDPK7‐mediated ZmAPX1 activity and promoting reactive oxygen species ...

Systemic acquired resistance: an emerging role for jasmonates in local signal biogenesis, translocation and distal signal decoding

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Jasmonate signalling underpins establishment of plant systemic acquired resistance (SAR). Activation of the hypersensitive response (HR) not only contains the pathogen but establishes broad spectrum resistance in unchallenged leaves. The strong burst of reactive oxygen/nitrogen species initiating the HR results in lipid peroxidation (illustrated by ...

Detection of Bacterial Wilt Pathogen and Isolation of Its Bacteriophage from Banana in Lumajang Area, Indonesia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, 2016
Bacterial wilt disease on banana is an important disease in Lumajang District and causes severe yield loss. Utilizing bacteriophage as natural enemy of pathogenic bacteria has been widely known as one of the control strategies. This research was aimed at

Mycorrhiza‐induced resistance against Botrytis cinerea in tomato operates through the systemin signalling cascade

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Prosystemin expression in mycorrhizal plants and comparative analysis of prosystemin and mycorrhiza in induced resistance. Summary Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi enhance plant resistance against necrotrophic fungi by priming jasmonic acid‐dependent defences.

Studies on the bacterial wilt of eggplants.

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Phytopathology, 1953
The present paper reported the results of experiments on the varietal resistance of eggplants to the bacterial wilt disease caused by Pseudomonas solanacearum, using two varieties, Daisen Maru No. 2 (susceptible) and Durable Shinkuro (resistant). From the morphological observations, the writer found cicatrice around the affected parts of eggplants ...

Staurosporine Targets Mitochondrial Regulator VdAtuA3 to Disrupt Mitochondrial Homeostasis to Control Verticillium Wilt

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mitochondria serve as cellular powerhouses that generate ATP via electron transport chain complexes and orchestrate metabolism‐apoptosis cross‐talk, yet genes maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis remain underexplored as antifungal targets. In this study, a previously uncharacterised protein VdAtuA3 was identified as a novel interactor with ...

Bacterial Diseases of Bananas and Enset: Current State of Knowledge and Integrated Approaches Toward Sustainable Management

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Bacterial diseases of bananas and enset have not received, until recently, an equal amount of attention compared to other major threats to banana production such as the fungal diseases black leaf streak (Mycosphaerella fijiensis) and Fusarium wilt ...
