Isolation of a bacteriophage specific for a new capsular type of Klebsiella pneumoniae and characterization of its polysaccharide depolymerase. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the major pathogens causing hospital-acquired multidrug-resistant infections. The capsular polysaccharide (CPS) is an important virulence factor of K. pneumoniae.

On the persistence of lytic bacteriophages in vivo and its consequences for bacteriophage therapy [PDF]
Bacteriophages are viruses infecting bacteria and archaea. Many phage species cause infections which lead to the certain death of the infected prokaryotic host cell and the release of a large batch of phage progeny, yet they have been able to stably coexist with their bacterial hosts over the eons in nature, as well as in the majority of laboratory ...

Self‐Assembled Physical Unclonable Function Labels Based on Plasmonic Coupling
This article introduces advanced anti‐counterfeit labels crafted through DNA‐guided self‐assembly of plasmonic nanoparticles. Utilizing nanosphere lithography for dense and precise nanoparticle placement, these labels feature unique, unclonable optical signatures achieved through plasmonic coupling, detectable by an economical 3D‐printed dark field ...

Coinfection in a stochastic model for bacteriophage systems [PDF]
A system modeling bacteriophage treatments with coinfections in a noisy context is analyzed. We prove that in a small noise regime, the system converges in the long term to a bacteria free equilibrium. Moreover, we compare the treatment with coinfection with the treatment without coinfection, showing how the coinfection affects the dose of ...

Structural and Biochemical Characterization of a Widespread Enterobacterial Peroxidase Encapsulin
Encapsulins are self‐assembling bacterial protein compartments loaded with cargo enzymes. The most abundant encapsulin cargo class are Dye‐decolorizing Peroxidases (DyPs). In this study, we structurally and biochemically characterize a DyP encapsulin found in many enterobacteria.

Sensitivity of Phage Lambda upon Variations of the Gibbs Free Energy [PDF]
We investigate the sensitivity of production rates (activities) of the regulatory proteins CI (repressor) and Cro at the right operator (O_R}) of bacteriophage lambda. The DNA binding energies of CI, Cro, and RNA polymerase are perturbed to check the uncertainty of the activity, due to the experimental error, by means of a computational scattering ...

Functional Ambidexterity of an Ancient Nucleic Acid‐Binding Domain
The (HhH)2‐Fold is an ancient and ubiquitous nucleic acid‐binding domain. We demonstrate that this domain, which interacts with the minor groove of dsDNA, is functionally ambidextrous – that it can bind to dsDNA of either chirality. Moreover, binding of both chiral forms of dsDNA is mediated by an overlapping binding surface.
