Engineering Osteoimmune Responses with Functionalized Orthopedic Implants for Post‐Operative Osteosarcoma Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor with limited treatment options and a terrible prognosis. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the recent development of osteoimmunomodulatory implants for post‐operative osteosarcoma treatment, of which the potential utility in evoking durable anti‐osteosarcoma immunity and accelerating bone

Rotavirus 993/83, isolated from calf faeces, closely resembles an avian rotavirus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Polypeptides from purified virions of the calf rotavirus (RV) isolate 993/83 and those from the pigeon RV isolate PO-13 comigrated on SDS-polyacrylamide gels. Two polypeptides of 45K and 47K were detected at the position of VP6.

The Mitochondrial Guardian α‐Amyrin Mitigates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology via Modulation of the DLK‐SARM1‐ULK1 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dietary habits play a key role in chronic diseases, and higher annual consumption of fruit and vegetable may lower risk of dementia. Artificial intelligence predicts the lipid‐like compound α‐Amyrin (αA) from plants with edible peels as a drug candidate against Alzheimer's disease.

New class of precision antimicrobials redefines role of Clostridium difficile S-layer in virulence and viability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
There is a medical need for antibacterial agents that do not damage the resident gut microbiota or promote the spread of antibiotic resistance. We recently described a prototypic precision bactericidal agent, Av-CD291.2, which selectively kills specific ...

Bacteriophage‐Mimetic DNA Origami Needle for Targeted Membrane Penetration and Cytosolic Cargo Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We designed a synthetic DNA origami needle‐like structure inspired by bacteriophages for targeted drug delivery. Functionalized with trastuzumab antibodies, cholesterol, and dyes, it selectively targets SKBR3 cancer cells. A glutathione‐triggered dye payload enables controlled release, and delivery is verified using confocal microscopy and live cell ...

Characterizing the bacteriophage PKp-V1 as a potential treatment for ESBL-producing hypervirulent K1 Klebsiella pneumoniae ST258 isolated from veterinary specimens [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World
Background and Aim: The dearth of new antibiotics necessitates alternative approaches for managing infections caused by resistant superbugs. This study aimed to evaluate the lytic potential of the purified bacteriophage PKp-V1 against extended-spectrum β-

Nap1L4a Cooperates with Scl/Klf1 to Recruit H2A.Z in Mediating Interactions Among Cis‐Regulatory Elements and Transcription Required for Primitive Erythropoiesis in Zebrafish

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nap1l4a is required in erythropoiesis and hypoxia responses via physical interaction with Klf1 and Scl to recruit the histone variant H2A.Z. This facilitates its associated cis‐regulatory element (CRE) remodeling and the consequent chromatin assembly, and activates the transcription of erythroid lineage‐specific genes.

Phenotypic and Genetic Predictors of Pathogenicity and Virulence in Flavobacterium psychrophilum

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Flavobacterium psychrophilum causes bacterial cold-water disease (BCWD) in farmed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), with the multilocus sequence typing (MLST) clonal complex (CC) CC-ST10 accounting for the majority of outbreaks globally.

Highly Secure In Vivo DNA Data Storage Driven by Genomic Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrated computational‐biological programming enables secure in vivo data storage by generating code tables from either genomes or gene regulatory networks, expanding the encryption key space by over 100 orders of magnitude. Storing code tables within synthetic genes, genomes, or gene regulatory networks adds an additional layer of security by ...
