Campylobacter jejuni Developed the Resistance to Bacteriophage CP39 by Phase Variable Expression of 06875 Encoding the CGPTase

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Bacteriophage (phage) is regarded as an antimicrobial alternative for Campylobacter in food production. However, the development of phage resistance to the host is a main concern for the phage application.

A robust SNP barcode for typing Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex strains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Strain-specific genomic diversity in the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) is an important factor in pathogenesis that may affect virulence, transmissibility, host response and emergence of drug resistance.

Evidence for a lineage of virulent bacteriophages that target Campylobacter

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2010
Background Our understanding of the dynamics of genome stability versus gene flux within bacteriophage lineages is limited. Recently, there has been a renewed interest in the use of bacteriophages as 'therapeutic' agents; a prerequisite for their use in ...

Interference with propagation of typing bacteriophages by extrachromosomal elements in Salmonella typhimurium: bacteriophage type 505 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1976
Samonella typhimurium bacteriophage type 505 is the most frequently encountered phage type in the Netherlands and its neighboring countries. Phage type 505 was analyzed with regard o the interference with propagation of the typing phages by the prophages and plasmids, present in the type strain S.

Sequencing and analysis of the DNA genome of the temperate bacteriophage Aa[Phi]23 of "Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The entire genomic sequence of the AaΦ23 bacteriophage is presented. Its size is 43,033 bp and it has an overall molar G+C content of 41mol%. 57 potential open reading frames (ORFs) were identified.

Bacteriophage Typing of Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci Isolated from Bovine Milk [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The purpose of the present study is to determine whether the phages of the N.C.T.C. phage-set and Davidson's phage-set could be utilized in typing 417 coagulase-negative staphylococci from bovine milk and to device a new phage-set that would yield higher

Bacteriophage typing of coagulase-negative staphylococci [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1979
Cultures comprising the 10 species of coagulase-negative staphylococci proposed by Kloos and Schleifer (J. Clin. Microbiol. 1:82--88, 1975) were typed with bacteriophages isolated from Staphylococcus epidermidis. Although only 10.5% were typable, 50% of those identified as S. epidermidis were typed.

Application of an Impedimetric Technique for the Detection of Lytic Infection of Salmonella spp. by Specific Phages

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, 2009
This study was performed to evaluate the adaption of the impedimetric method to detect the lytic infection by Salmonella-specific bacteriophages and to ...

Development and Application of a Prophage Integrase Typing Scheme for Group B Streptococcus

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a gram-positive pathogen mainly affecting humans, cattle, and fishes. Mobile genetic elements play an important role in the evolution of GBS, its adaptation to host species and niches, and its pathogenicity.

Genealogical typing of Neisseria meningitidis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Despite the increasing popularity of multilocus sequence typing (MLST), the most appropriate method for characterizing bacterial variation and facilitating epidemiological investigations remains a matter of debate.
