Role of Complement in Host Resistance Against Members of the Bacteroidaceae
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1984Considerable evidence has been reported in recent years suggesting that complement plays an important role in host resistance against members of the Bacteroidaceae. Most of the investigations in this area have focused on the genus Bacteroides because of its clinical importance.

In 35 cases of anaerobic gram-negative rod (Bacteroidaceae) bacteremia only one of the 23 patients under 40 years of age died. The 12 patients more than 40 years of age died in septicemic shock. Female genital tract infection secondary to incomplete septic abortion accounted for 18 cases.

Oxygen activation and defence against oxygen toxicity in a psychrophilic bacteroidaceae
Archives of Microbiology, 1989When suddenly exposed to air the growth of the obligate anaerobic bacterium of the bacteroidaceae type, strain B6, continues for a few hours before coming to a complete stop. When air is shut off soon after growth has ceased, the organism is able to reestablish anaerobic conditions due to an ability to reduce O2, and resumes normal growth after another
