Identifying and improving the fibre-degrading activity of rumen microbe-derived fibrolytic bacteria : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Genetics at Massey University, Manawatū, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The dairy industry is extremely important to the New Zealand (NZ) economy, and it accounts for approximately $16.6 billion in exports each year. In NZ, traditional feedstock for cattle, such as grass and hay, consists of cellulose-based fibrous material ...

Construction of Chronic Kidney Disease Mouse Model Induced by Diets With Different Adenine Content

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
By administering a 4 weeks adenine diet to C57BL/6J mice, we identified 0.2% adenine in purified feed as the optimal chronic kidney disease model. This model induces severe renal damage, gut dysbiosis, uremic toxin accumulation, and CKD mineral bone disorder, providing a clinically relevant platform for mechanistic and therapeutic studies.

Antimicrobial susceptibility of relatively infrequent isolates of the Bacteroides fragilis group: Bacteroides uniformis, bacteroides caccae, and Bacteroides eggerthii

open access: yesCurrent Therapeutic Research, 1993
Abstract Using a broth microdilution method, clinical isolates of Bacteroides caccae (10 strains), Bacteroides eggerthii (1 strain), and Bacteroides uniformis (25 strains) were tested to determine their susceptibility to various beta-lactam agents, clindamycin, and metronidazole. All strains were beta-lactamase producers. Strains of B uniformis

Associations between Nugent‐bacterial vaginosis and preterm birth and other adverse pregnancy outcomes in rural northwestern Bangladesh

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Bacterial vaginosis, defined by Nugent score (Nugent‐BV), has been associated with preterm birth and other adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, few studies have longitudinally described the associations between Nugent‐BV and adverse pregnancy outcomes at varying times in pregnancy.

Assessment of Biofertilizer Quality and Health Implications of Anaerobic Digestion Effluent of Cow Dung and Chicken Droppings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Anaerobic digestate have been identified as a rich source of essential plant nutrients. Nevertheless, its safety measured by the concentration of pathogen present is of great concern to end users. This research explored the efficiency of the mesophilic

Oat β‐Glucan and Galactooligosaccharides Influence Gallstone Formation by Modulating the Gut Microbiota, Particularly Desulfovibrionales

open access: yesiMetaMed, EarlyView.
Oat β‐glucan and galactooligosaccharides influence the formation of gallstones by modulating the gut microbiota, particularly the abundance of Desulfovibrionales. The primary mechanism involves metabolic byproducts associated with Desulfovibrionales inhibiting hepatic bile acid synthesis via both the hepatic FXR–SHP and intestinal FXR–FGF15 signaling ...

Targeting Microbiome Metabolites: Reshaping Immunotherapy and Clinical Management Strategies for Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesiMetaMed, EarlyView.
The occurrence and progression of colorectal cancer are intricately linked to metabolites produced by the gut microbiota. Metabolites generated by pathogenic microbial communities can promote colorectal cancer development by reshaping the immune microenvironment.

Microbial influences on immune modulation and colorectal cancer progression through combined transcriptomic and microbiomic analysis

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the distinct tumor microenvironment characteristics in CA1 and CA2 subtypes. CA1 illustrates an immune‐active tumor microenvironment characterized by elevated infiltration of immune cells, particularly CD8 + T cells and macrophages, and enhanced IFN‐γ signaling.
