The microbiota–gut–brain axis in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease: a scoping review of human studies

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Alzheimer's disease (AD) is projected to become the highest‐burden neurological disorder globally. Mounting evidence implicates the gut microbiome in AD pathogenesis. This scoping review of gut microbiomes in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and AD included dietary and probiotic interventions.

Identifying Immune Cells as Mediators in the Impact of Gut Microbiota on Congenital Malformations of the Nervous System

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study reveals causal links between gut microbiota and congenital nervous system malformations, identifying nine immune cell types, such as CD20+ and CD25+ B cells, as mediators, highlighting gut–immune interactions as potential preventive or therapeutic targets.

Distinct Gut Microbiota Profiles Reflect Severity in Chronic Insomnia Disorder

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
The authors used 16S rRNA sequencing and PICRUSt2 analysis to explore the link between sleep quality and gut microbiota in chronic insomnia disorder (CID) patients. Those with more severe sleep disturbances exhibited pronounced gut microbiota dysbiosis (structural/functional alterations).

The Potential of Phytochemicals to Overcome Multidrug Resistance in Metastatic Melanoma

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Metastatic melanoma is the most lethal form of skin cancer, accounting for most skin cancer‐related deaths. Immunotherapies and targeted therapies have improved overall and progression‐free survival rates in metastatic melanoma patients. The effectiveness of these therapies decreases due to multidrug resistance (MDR).
