Infection with Clindamycin–Resistant Bacteroides uniformis

Chemotherapy, 1985
We report a case of osteomyelitis due to a strain of Bacteroides uniformis highly resistant to clindamycin. The patient failed to respond to intravenous clindamycin therapy and eventually required amputation. This is the first documented occurrence of high-level clindamycin resistance in a clinical isolate of B. uniformis.

Significance of encapsulated Bacteroides melaninogenicus and Bacteroides fragilis groups in mixed infections

Infection and Immunity, 1984
Organisms of the Bacteroides melaninogenicus and Bacteroides fragilis groups are often found mixed with facultatively anaerobic organisms in infections. The relative importance of these Bacteroides groups and facultative anaerobic pathogens in mixed infections was investigated in a subcutaneous abscess model in mice.

First case of abdominal infection caused by bacteroides fluxus

Anaerobe, 2021
Bacteroides fluxus is a Gram-negative anaerobic bacillus isolated from human faeces in healthy individuals. Until now, this bacterium had not been involved in human diseases. We report the first case of abdominal infection due to this microorganism in an elderly patient.

Clostridia and Bacteroides in Enteric Infections

1996
The ability of anaerobic bacteria to cause disease in humans and animals has been recognized for many years. The clostridia, for example, are well known for their ability to cause disease by producing a variety of toxins ranging from the potent neurotoxins of Clostridium tetani and Clostridium botulinum to the tissue-damaging toxins of the gas gangrene

"Red complex" (Bacteroides forsythus, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Treponema denticola) in endodontic infections: a molecular approach.

Oral surgery, oral medicine, oral pathology, oral radiology, and endodontics, 2001
OBJECTIVE The "red complex," composed of Bacteroides forsythus, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Treponema denticola, is implicated in severe forms of periodontal diseases.

Detection of Bacteroides fragilis Infection by Precipitin Antibody

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1974
Ultrasonic extracts of three subspecies of Bacteroides fragilis were used to detect precipitating antibody against B. fragilis in Ouchterlony plates. Sera of 12 patients with bacteremia due to B. fragilis and of nine patients in whom B. fragilis was isolated from loculated pus were studied.

Bacteroides spp. in dental root canal infections.

Endodontics & dental traumatology, 1989
A summary of a series of bacteriological studies of endodontic infections is presented in this article. The bacteriology of 62 root canal infections was studied with special attention focused on the occurrence, role and taxonomy of Bacteroides spp.

Bacteroides forsythus in primary endodontic infections as detected by nested PCR.

Journal of Endodontics, 2003
The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of Bacteroides forsythus in primary endodontic infections using a species-specific nested polymerase chain reaction assay.

Late Infection with Bacteroides Fragilis in a Prosthetic Joint

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1980
A late infection caused by Bacteroides fragilis in a prosthesis knee joint is presented. The patient's underlying disease may have predisposed her to this organism.

Clindamycin vs penicillin for anaerobic lung infections. High rate of penicillin failures associated with penicillin-resistant Bacteroides melaninogenicus.

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1990
Thirty-seven adult patients with anaerobic lung infections (27 lung abscesses and 10 necrotizing pneumonias) were submitted to transthoracic needle-aspiration and/or bronchoscopic specimen brush cultures before therapy and thereafter in all cases ...
