Extension of Sous Vide Preservation of Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo L.) Meat With Rosmarinus officinalis Essential Oil: A Study on Chemical Composition and Antibacterial Effectiveness Against Listeria monocytogenes and Other Population of Isolated Microbiota

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Schematic illustration of sous vide preparation of wild turkey meat and microbiological analysis of the meat. ABSTRACT In our study, we focused on the chemical composition of Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil (ROEO), its antimicrobial effects. Drawing from existing research, we further investigated the antimicrobial properties of ROEO under in vivo ...

Age Influences the Bacterial Composition of Samples From Buffaloes in the Marajó Archipelago, Pará, Brazilian Amazon

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Milk microbiomes showed similar composition in young and adult buffaloes. Despite distinct microbial profiles among matrices, shared bacterial families indicate microbial interaction between milk, faeces, calf spittle and soil. ABSTRACT Buffalo milk stands out for its nutritional qualities and is mainly produced in Brazil in the Amazon region ...

Bottom Grinding Increases the Phototrophic Bacteria While Reduces Bacterial Community Stability in Sea Cucumber Cultural Ponds

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Effects of bottom grinding (BG) on bacterial communities in sea cucumber ponds were investigated. BG enhanced Cyanobacteria but reduced Proteobacteria in water bacterial communities. A more complex but unstable bacterial community was observed in ponds after BG. BG improved the migration and stochastic assembly of bacterial communities. ABSTRACT Bottom

Full‐Length 16S and 18S rRNA Long‐Read Sequencing Reveals Gut Microbiome Diversity in the European Brown Hare (Lepus europaeus)

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Full‐length 16S and 18S rRNA Oxford Nanopore sequencing of large intestine contents from 30 healthy European brown hares revealed broad gut microbiome diversity. An 80% identity threshold detected substantially greater taxonomic richness than 95%, emphasizing the value of long‐read sequencing in wildlife microbiome research. ABSTRACT The European brown
