Baicalein and baicalin as Zika virus inhibitors
Archives of Virology, 2018At present, there is no effective antiviral agent for Zika virus (ZIKV), an arbovirus that is known for its teratogenic effects on newborns. Baicalein and baicalin were found to be capable of downregulating ZIKV replication up to 10 hours postinfection, while prophylactic effects were evident in pre-treated cells.

Selective inhibition of platelet lipoxygenase by baicalein
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1982Abstract The effects of various flavonoids on platelet lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase activities were studied. Baicalein selectively inhibited platelet lipoxygenase. The concentration for 50% inhibition (ID 50 ) was 0.12 μM for platelet lipoxygenase and 0.83 mM for platelet cyclooxygenase.

Identification of the metabolites of baicalein in human plasma
Journal of Asian Natural Products Research, 2011The metabolites of baicalein in human plasma were investigated after taking baicalein, which is one of the main bioactive flavones in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. Five metabolites (M1-M5) together with the parent drug baicalein (P) were detected and identified by the HPLC-diode-array detector (DAD) and LC-MS/MS methods.

Anticancer Effects of Baicalein on Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells
Phytotherapy Research, 2014The therapeutic potential of baicalein against hepatoma cells was evaluated in vitro and in vivo. In cell viability assays, baicalein showed significant cytotoxicity against the hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines H22, Bel‐7404, and Hep G2 and moderate cytotoxicity against immortalized human hepatocytes.
