Understanding bainite formation in steels
The formation of bainite in steels is one of the most intensely researched topics in the field of metallurgy. Despite the importance of bainite among the modern-day steels, even a qualitative theory to explain the bainite formation still remains a ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

A physics‐informed property‐bridging framework links high‐throughput hardness screening to tensile performance in quenching and partitioning steels. By transferring metallurgically guided representations across properties, a single alloy composition is designed to achieve multiple strength grades through heat‐treatment tuning alone, offering a ...

It is demonstrated that bainite can be obtained by isothermal transformation at a temperature which is so low that the calculated diffusion distance of an iron atom, over the time scale of the experiment, is many orders of magnitude less than an ...

The strength and plasticity balance of F/B dual-phase X80 pipeline steels strongly depends on deformation compatibility between the soft phase of ferrite and the hard phase of bainite; thus, the tensile strength of ferrite and bainite, as non-negligible ...

The phase transformation behavior of a hypoeutectoid steel is studied in comparison with alloys containing higher concentrations of tramp elements, simulating high recycling rates. The examination of microstructures reveals that the tramp elements facilitate the formation of displacive phases along with retained austenite.
