The effect of ball-handling on lower extremity mechanics in soccer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
HRS Honors Research Thesis ScholarshipNearly 240,000 soccer injuries are estimated to have occurred in the United States in 2014 with a high number of them non-contact in nature and involving the lower extremities. These injuries result in time-loss from

Fullerene sugar balls

open access: yesChemical Communications, 2010
Fullerene hexakis-adducts bearing 12 peripheral carbohydrate moieties have been prepared by grafting sugar derivatives onto the fullerene core through the copper mediated Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azides and alkynes.

Thermoelectric Modules Incorporating MgAgSb and Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 Synthesized Using a Melting Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable synthesis method for a thermoelectric material of MgAgSb is established. A thermoelectric power module of MgAgSb/Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 is fabricated, showing the conversion efficiency of 7.4% at ΔT = 315 K. The performance is comparable to conventional Bi2Te3 modules when they are operated with an air‐cooled heat exchanger.

Remaking Local Government: Success and Failure Under Indiana’s Government Modernization Act

open access: yesJournal of Public and Nonprofit Affairs, 2017
During the period of 2008 to 2012, four consolidation attempts occurred under Indiana’s Government Modernization Act: two proposing city–county consolidation and two proposing town–township consolidation.

A unique pure mechanical system revealing dipole repulsion

open access: yes, 2012
We study multiple elastic collisions of a block and a ball against a rigid wall in one dimension. The complete trajectory of the block is solved as an analytic function of time.

3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...

Fast and slow myofiber nuclei, satellite cells, and size distribution with lifelong endurance exercise in men and women

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
We previously observed lifelong endurance exercise (LLE) influenced quadriceps whole‐muscle and myofiber size in a fiber‐type and sex‐specific manner.

Balls in generalizations of metric spaces

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2016
This paper discusses balls in partial b-metric spaces and cone metric spaces, respectively. Let ( X , p b ) $(X,p_{b})$ be a partial b-metric space in the sense of Mustafa et al. For the family △ of all p b $p_{b}$ -open balls in ( X , p b ) $(X,p_{b})$ ,

Uniform infinite planar triangulation and related time-reversed critical branching process

open access: yes, 2003
We establish a connection between the uniform infinite planar triangulation and some critical time-reversed branching process. This allows to find a scaling limit for the principal boundary component of a ball of radius R for large R (i.e. for a boundary

Don’t Turn Blind! The Relationship Between Exploration Before Ball Possession and On-Ball Performance in Association Football

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2018
Visual exploratory action – scanning movements expressed through left and right rotation of the head – allows perception of a surrounding environment and supports prospective actions.
