Heat conduction of single-walled carbon nanotube isotope-superlattice structures: A molecular dynamics study

open access: yes, 2006
Heat conduction of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) isotope-superlattice is investigated by means of classical molecular dynamics simulations. Superlattice structures were formed by alternately connecting SWNTs with different masses. On varying the

Experimental and Numerical Investigation on the Dynamic Impact Response of Hat‐Shaped Basalt Fiber‐Reinforced Polymer Composite Structures With Improved Interfacial Properties

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Graphical abstract illustrating the experimental design and key findings of the study. ABSTRACT Basalt fiber‐reinforced polymer (BFRP) composites are gaining attention as sustainable alternatives to conventional fiber‐reinforced polymers owing to their favorable mechanical properties and environmental advantages.

Comparative Evaluation of Structure–Processing–Property Relationships in Flax, Hemp, and Cattail Discontinuous fiber Thermoset Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Needle punching reorients fibers from in‐plane direction toward z‐direction of the web, resulting in mechanical interlocking of fibers and reduction in the nonwoven mat thickness. ABSTRACT Replacement of glass fiber mats, utilized in large and complex composite parts in the transportation industry, with natural fiber mats requires knowledge of natural ...

Design space for low sensitivity to size variations in [110] PMOS nanowire devices: The implications of anisotropy in the quantization mass

open access: yes, 2008
A 20-band sp3d5s* spin-orbit-coupled, semi-empirical, atomistic tight-binding model is used with a semi-classical, ballistic, field-effect-transistor (FET) model, to examine the ON-current variations to size variations of [110] oriented PMOS nanowire ...

Synthesis and Characterization of an Azido Nitrofurazanyl Ether: An Energy‐Rich Heterocyclic Plasticizer With a Low Glass Transition Temperature

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We report on the synthesis and characterization of 3‐(2‐(2‐azidoethoxy)ethoxy)‐4‐nitro‐1,2,5‐oxadiazole (NFPEG2N3), which is a liquid nitrofurazanyl ether that was designed to be an energy‐rich plasticizer for glycidyl azide polymer (GAP)‐ and nitrocellulose (NC)‐based formulations.

Tuning the Morphology of Self‐Assembled Nanopatterns on MgO(001) Surfaces by Sequential Broad‐Beam Ion Irradiation

open access: yesphysica status solidi (RRL) – Rapid Research Letters, EarlyView.
A two‐step approach based on broad‐beam ion irradiation is demonstrated to produce fine‐tuned self‐assembled surface patterns on MgO(001). It shows an efficient route to modifying the crystalline MgO(001) surface topography in a controlled way, making use of its very specific behavior in terms of both the pattern morphology and patterning dynamics.

Sampling, Mobility, and Anchoring in Small‐Body Sampling Robots: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesSmartBot, EarlyView.
Small‐body sampling robots are exploration systems that perform contact, sampling, and stable operations on microgravity bodies such as asteroids and comets. The authors review representative robot architectures and key technologies, focusing on the mechanisms, evolution, and coupling of sampling, mobility, and anchoring.
