A model of ballistic aggregation and fragmentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A simple model of ballistic aggregation and fragmentation is proposed. The model is characterized by two energy thresholds, Eagg and Efrag, which demarcate different types of impacts: If the kinetic energy of the relative motion of a colliding pair is ...

Designing and modeling new generation of advanced hybrid composite sandwich structure armors for ballistic threats in defense applications

open access: yesAIMS Materials Science, 2020
Composite sandwich structures under ballistic impact loading can be a key point in the design for defense applications. This paper presents new armor designs consist of two composite plates with honeycomb core subjected to ballistic impact via 0.3 ...

Ballistic response and failure mechanisms of gradient structured Mg alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Due to their low density, high specific damping capacity and high shock absorbency, magnesium (Mg) alloys have great potential for development as high-performance lightweight armor materials in industrial applications.

Role of Phonon Scattering in Graphene Nanoribbon Transistors: Non-Equilibrium Green's Function Method with Real Space Approach

open access: yes, 2011
Mode space approach has been used so far in NEGF to treat phonon scattering for computational efficiency. Here we perform a more rigorous quantum transport simulation in real space to consider interband scatterings as well.

SIMULATION OF BALLISTIC IMPACT ON POLYMER MATRIX COMPOSITE PANELS

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, 2015
Composite panels, for example fuselage skins or wing skins of military aircraft, may be subjected to a variety of ballistic impacts. It is meaningful to understand the mechanical response, damage evolution and residual velocity of a projectile for panels under ballistic impact.

Heat conduction of single-walled carbon nanotube isotope-superlattice structures: A molecular dynamics study

open access: yes, 2006
Heat conduction of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) isotope-superlattice is investigated by means of classical molecular dynamics simulations. Superlattice structures were formed by alternately connecting SWNTs with different masses. On varying the

3D Multi-Subband Ensemble Monte Carlo Simulator of FinFETs and nanowire transistors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we present the development of a 3D Multi Subband Ensemble Monte Carlo (3DMSB-EMC) tool targeting the simulation of nanoscaled FinFETs and nanowire transistors.

Photoswitchable Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A conductive material where the conductivity can be modulated remotely by irradiation with light is presented. It is based on films of conductive metal–organic framework type Cu3(HHTP)2 with embedded photochromic molecules such as azobenzene, diarylethene, spiropyran, and hexaarylbiimidazole in the pores.

Does the thermal spike affect low-energy ion-induced interfacial mixing?

open access: yes, 2003
Molecular dynamics simulations have been used to obtain the three-dimensional distribution of interfacial mixing and cascade defects in Ti/Pt multilayer system due to single 1 keV $Ar^+$ impacts at grazing angle of incidence.

Simulation and Experimental Tests of Ballistic Impact on Composite Laminate Armor [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
This paper presents the experimental testing and simulation results of ballistic impact tests on laminated armor samples that consist of three layers of different materials: fiber‐cement, Kevlar fabric, and steel. In experimental tests, a 9 mm FMJ bullet was launched towards a 100 cm2 sample of the armor from the fiber‐cement side.
