Experimental Investigation of Thin-Walled UHPFRCC Modular Barrier for Blast and Ballistic Protection

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The static response of ballistic panels and also its resistance to blast and ballistic impact is investigated in the framework of this study. By connecting individual ballistic panels together, the protective barrier can be constructed.

Internal ballistics of polygonal and grooved barrels: A comparative study

open access: yesScience in progress, 2021
As a parameter important ballistic, the research about polygonal and grooved barrels’ behavior has not been widely carried out. The pressures, velocities, stresses, deformations, and strains generated by the firing of 9 mm × 19 mm ammunition in weapons ...

Correlations in Ballistic Processes [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2003
We investigate a class of reaction processes in which particles move ballistically and react upon colliding. We show that correlations between velocities of colliding particles play a crucial role in the long time behavior. In the reaction-controlled limit when particles undergo mostly elastic collisions and therefore are always near equilibrium, the ...

Additive Manufacturing of High‐Performance Polymers for Extreme Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing of high‐performance polymers for extreme environments is critically reviewed through an integrated chemistry‐processing‐structure‐property‐qualification framework. The review compares fused filament fabrication, selective laser sintering, and direct ink writing, linking rheology and thermal history to crystallization, defect ...

Spontaneous Cyclic Levitation of Glycerol‐Water Droplets at Low Pressures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Under low pressure, a minute glycerol addition transforms the chaotic dynamics of freezing water droplets into cyclic levitation. Freeze‐concentration preserves liquid pathways that relax expansion‐induced stress, while freezing point depression weakens asymmetric vaporization recoil.

Ballistic Trauma of Limbs [PDF]

open access: yesThe Open Orthopaedics Journal, 2017
The objective of our study was to report the management and follow-up of a particular case of ballistic trauma and to do the literature review. Observation: A 35-year-old patient, a trader who was the victim of a firearm accident under not very clear circumstances.

Decoding Biomolecular Phase Separation: From Physiological Roles to Pathological Mechanisms and Therapeutic Biomaterials Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review systematically elaborates on the mechanisms underlying physiological regulation and pathological dysregulation of biomolecular phase separation. It also summarizes advances in phase‑separation‑targeted therapeutic strategies and the design of functional biomaterials inspired by this process.

Mechanochemical Engineered Sulfur Copolymers Onto Group 13 and Related Fillers Through Lewis Acid‐Base Pairing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Green mechanochemical copolymerization was developed for universal interfacial modification of Group 13 and related fillers. By leveraging Lewis acid–base coordination to anchor sulfur‐containing polymers—validated via multiscale characterization and DFT—this versatile method boosts performance across liquid fuels, thermal‐shielding materials, and ...

Habitat‐Specific Design Strategies for Untethered Soft Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Habitat shapes the design of untethered soft robots. Across land, water, air, and living tissues, environmental constraints govern viable combinations of compliant structures, actuation mechanisms, and energy delivery. This review connects these constraints with robotic performance and identifies design principles for advancing adaptable, durable, and ...

Permeability and Surface Hardness Surveying of Stone Damaged by Ballistic Impact

open access: yesHeritage, 2019
Recent instances of the destruction of cultural assets in conflict zones have demonstrated the need to develop methods which will allow for the assessment of damage to heritage stone in the field.
