Improve Efficiency of Photovoltaic/Thermal Systems using Porous Materials: An Experimental Study [PDF]

open access: yesIranica Journal of Energy and Environment
The weak convection mechanism in photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) systems leads to numerous studies dealing with this problem. This study analyzes a new, affordable method to improve convection in PV/Ts and increase their thermal/electrical efficiency.

A novel fuzzy expert system design to assist with peptic ulcer disease diagnosis

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2021
Peptic ulcer disease causes abdominal discomfort and pain. Helicobacter pylori bacteria, infection and long-term use of anti-inflammatory drugs are the most common causes of peptic ulcers.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Thermal Assessment of a Novel Thermal Diode Solar Water Heater Using Different Heat Transfer Fluids: An Experimental Study [PDF]

open access: yesIranica Journal of Energy and Environment
Thermal diode solar water heaters (SWHs) are novel, promising tools that address an inherent problem in SWHs: significant heat losses. Thermal diodes SWHs use heat transfer fluids (HTFs) to carry out this crucial task, or in other words, to improve the ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Mechanistic and Correlative Models of Ecological Niches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The suite of factors that drives where and under what conditions a species occurs has become the focus of intense research interest. Three general categories of methods have emerged by which researchers address questions in this area ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Self-organizing propagation patterns from dynamic self-assembly in monolayers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Propagation of localized orientational waves, as imaged by Brewster angle microscopy, is induced by low intensity linearly polarized light inside axisymmetric smectic-C confined domains in a photosensitive molecular thin film at the air/water interface ...
