Variation among banana weevil Cosmopolites sordidus (Germar) populations in Uganda as revealed by AFLP markers and corm damage differences

open access: yesAgriculture & Food Security, 2018
Background The banana weevil Cosmopolites sordidus (Germar) is a major production constraint of bananas and plantains (Musa spp.) in the world. Differences in damage levels and pesticide response across regions led to the postulation that there might be ...

Engineering a Multifunctional g‐C3N4/TiO2 Active Packaging Film With Enhanced Barrier and Photocatalytic Properties for Postharvest Preservation of Plum Fruit

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
The engineered g‐C3N4/TiO2@PVA active packaging film efficiently degrades exogenous ethylene under LED irradiation, effectively suppressing the endogenous ripening pathway of “Wushan” plums. Combined with enhanced barrier properties, this multifunctional film significantly delays the climacteric respiration peak and extends fruit shelf life.

Beyond the C/N Ratio: The Critical Role of Carbon Bioavailability in Aerobic Composting of Agricultural Waste

open access: yesClean Technologies
The initial carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio is a fundamental parameter for aerobic composting, with a generally recommended optimal range of 25:1 to 30:1. However, in practical applications, the optimal C/N ratio often deviates from the recommended value.

Chemistry Underlying the Behavior of Food and Agricultural Components During Industrial Manufacturing Processes and Its Implications in Quality Assurance, Food Quality, and Food Safety Management: A Systematic Review

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Industrial manufacturing processes have transformative effects on the components of food matrix. These transformations in food matrix and components have direct implications for quality assurance (QA), food quality (e.g., nutritional profile and texture), and food safety management (e.g., pathogen control and toxin mitigation). ABSTRACT This systematic
