Dynamics of evaporative colloidal patterning

open access: yes, 2014
Drying suspensions often leave behind complex patterns of particulates, as might be seen in the coffee stains on a table. Here we consider the dynamics of periodic band or uniform solid film formation on a vertical plate suspended partially in a drying ...

Detection of chromosome aberrations in metaphase and interphase tumor cells by in situ hybridization using chromosome-specific library probes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Chromosome aberrations in two glioma cell lines were analyzed using biotinylated DNA library probes that specifically decorate chromosomes 1, 4, 7, 18 and 22 from pter to qter.

Banded Vegetation Patterns and Related Structures

open access: yes, 2001
The study of banded vegetation pattern has proceeded in three steps. The first step consisted of a recognition phase. An early reference to plant formation in western British Somaliland was that of (1941). Most banded vegetation patterns are difficult to identify on the ground, and their spatial extent was not appreciated until the 1950s when the ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

[PROVISIONAL] Heterochromatin and numeric chromosome evolution in Bignoniaceae, with emphasis on the Neotropical clade Tabebuia alliance

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology
Bignoniaceae is a diverse family composed of 840 species with Pantropical distribution. The chromosome number 2n = 40 is predominant in most species of the family, with n = 20 formerly being considered the haploid base number. We discuss here the haploid

Heterochromatin analysis in the fish species Liposarcus anisitsi (siluriformes) and Leporinus elongatus (characiformes)

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 1999
The chromosomes of two neotropical freshwater fish species, namely Liposarcus anisitsi (Siluriformes, Loricariidae) and Leporinus elongatus (Characiformes, Anostomidae), were investigated by means of C-banding, Ag-NORs, fluorochrome staining and banding ...

Studies of proteinograms in dermatophytes by disc electrophoresis. 1. Protein bands in relation to growth phase [PDF]

open access: yes
Homogenates were prepared from various growth phases of Microsporum gypseum grown on different amino acids as the nitrogen source. When analyzed on 7.5% polyacrylamide disc gels, the water-soluble proteins in these homogenates gave essentially identical ...

Vertical Transmission of a Phylogenetically Complex Microbial Consortium in the Viviparous Sponge \u3cem\u3eIrcinia Felix\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Many marine demosponges contain large amounts of phylogenetically complex yet highly sponge-specific microbial consortia within the mesohyl matrix, but little is known about how these microorganisms are acquired by their hosts.

Microstructural Shear Localization in Plastic Deformation of Amorphous Solids

open access: yes, 2001
The shear-transformation-zone (STZ) theory of plastic deformation predicts that sufficiently soft, non-crystalline solids are linearly unstable against forming periodic arrays of microstructural shear bands.
