Instrumentation for sensing moisture content of material using a transient thermal pulse [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Instrumentation for sensing moisture content of material using a transient thermal pulse is comprised of a sensing probe having a sensing element in the form of a ribbon excited by a constant current pulse from a source to increase the temperature and ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Conformal Mappings and Dispersionless Toda hierarchy

open access: yes, 2009
Let $\mathfrak{D}$ be the space consists of pairs $(f,g)$, where $f$ is a univalent function on the unit disc with $f(0)=0$, $g$ is a univalent function on the exterior of the unit disc with $g(\infty)=\infty$ and $f'(0)g'(\infty)=1$. In this article, we

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

An integral representation for Besov and Lipschitz spaces

open access: yes, 2011
It is well known that functions in the analytic Besov space $B_1$ on the unit disk $\D$ admits an integral representation $$f(z)=\ind\frac{z-w}{1-z\bar w}\,d\mu(w),$$ where $\mu$ is a complex Borel measure with $|\mu|(\D)

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Responses of single units in cat visual cortex to moving bars of light as a function of bar length [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 1977
1. The responses of single units in the cat's primary visual cortex to moving bars have been examined quantitatively as a function of bar length.2. For about half the cells studied, very long bars evoked weaker responses than short bars, implying that there were inhibitory regions flanking the receptive field centre.

The Study of Barred Spiral Galaxies with Integral-Field Units [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2010
AbstractIntegral-Field Units have been used to describe the morphology in numerous continuum and line wavebands of a sample of barred spirals galaxies (some of which known as starbursts and LINERs) and to characterize their gas and stellar populations.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

In Vitro Activity of Tedizolid, Dalbavancin, and Ceftobiprole Against Clostridium difficile

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Background:Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is a major nosocomial pathogen that colonizes in the human gut. Recently, the U.S. FDA approved three new antimicrobial agents against gram-positive bacteria: Tedizolid, Dalbavancin, and Ceftobiprole.
