Hypsometry and Volume of the Arctic Ocean and Its Constituent Seas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This paper presents an analysis of the Arctic Ocean and its constituent seas for seafloor area distribution versus depth and ocean volume. The bathymetry from the International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO) is used together with limits ...

April sea ice extent in the Barents Sea, 1850?2001 [PDF]

open access: yesPolar Research, 2003
Three observational data sets are used to construct a continuous record (1850–2001) of April ice edge position in the Barents Sea: two sets of Norwegian ice charts (one from 1850 to 1949 and the other from 1966 to 2001) and Soviet aircraft reconnaissance ice extent charts from 1950 to 1966.

Revealing the Diverse Allergenic Protein Repertoire of Six Widely Consumed Crab Species: A Species‐Specific Allergen in King Crab

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study comprehended the allergen profiles of six edible crab species using proteomic and transcriptomic analyses and identified 11 putative allergens. King crab has a distinct protein and allergen profile, with the discovery of malate dehydrogenase as a novel king crab‐specific allergen registered as Para c 11.

The Nordic Seas carbon budget: Sources, sinks, and uncertainties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A carbon budget for the Nordic Seas is derived by combining recent inorganic carbon data from the CARINA database with relevant volume transports. Values of organic carbon in the Nordic Seas' water masses, the amount of carbon input from river runoff ...

Palaeoenvironmental evolution of the Baltic Sea basin during the Last Interglacial (Eemian, Mikulino stages): a review

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
This review presents an investigation of the evolution of the Baltic Sea basin and its connections through the Eemian Stage, based upon sequences of marine and associated deposits from the White Sea to the Southwest Baltic, via the Karelian channel. Pollen analyses, foraminiferal and ostracod analyses provide the evolution of relative sea‐level change,

On the background values of heavy metal content in bottom sediments of the Barents Sea [PDF]

open access: yesVestnik MGTU, 2017
Based on the long-term data the background content in the number of heavy metals in bottom sediments of the Barents Sea has been estimated. For the purpose to estimate the up-to-date state of the geochemical background the contents of heavy metals in ...

Effects of intraseasonal variations of the Arctic Oscillation on the Barents Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper investigates possible connections among the wintertime Arctic Oscillation(AO), North Atlantic water inflow into the Barents Sea, and sea ice and sea water temperature in the Barents Sea on monthly to seasonal time scales using a coupled sea ...

Variability of the Northern Annular Mode's signature in winter sea ice concentration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Historical winter sea ice concentration data are used to examine the relation between the Northern Annular Mode (NAM) and the sea ice concentration in the Nordic seas over the past 50 years.

Flow‐pattern evolution of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet indicated by the subglacial lineation record over Norway, Sweden and Finland

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We present a 25‐stage reconstruction of the ice‐flow pattern evolution of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet based on mapping and analysis of ~240 000 subglacial lineations and lineation fields across Norway, Sweden, Finland, and parts of NW Russia. Our reconstruction uses a glacial geomorphological inversion approach, in which we generated 611 individual ...

Interannual variability of the Barents Sea branch water in the northeastern part of the Barents Sea and the St. Anna Trough

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
In this work, we describe the inter-annual variability of the Barents Sea branch water (BSBW), which is one of the main branches of the Atlantic water that flows from the North Atlantic to the Western Arctic.
