Abstract Although Macrourus species are the main by‐catch across Southern Ocean longline fisheries, including around South Georgia, the lack of species‐specific data has hindered effective management and ecological understanding. Aggregation of macrourids at genus level masks critical interspecific differences in life‐history strategies and ...

Fisheries Management In The Barents Sea
No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. The fisheries in the Barents Sea are of very high importance to the region. Most of the fish stocks are shared by Norway and Russia and joint management decisions are taken by The Joint Norwegian-Russian Fisheries Commission.

Dispersed sedimentary matter of the Barents sea
The results of the study of the distribution and composition of the dispersed sedimentary matter (suspended matter) in the water column of the Barents Sea were presented in the article. The distribution of suspended matter in the sea obeys the laws of circumcontinental (for surface distribution) and vertical zonality.

ABSTRACT Kudoa thyrsites is a myxosporean parasite that infects the skeletal muscle of various teleost fish species globally. Severe infections lead to ‘soft flesh’ in fish fillets, resulting in food spoilage and subsequent discard. While K. thyrsites has previously been identified in migratory Atlantic mackerel in the northern Northeast Atlantic Ocean,

An emerging pathway of Atlantic Water to the Barents Sea through the Svalbard Archipelago: drivers and variability [PDF]
The Barents Sea, an important component of the Arctic Ocean, is experiencing changes in its ocean currents, stratification, sea ice variability, and marine ecosystems. Inflowing Atlantic Water (AW) is a key driver of these changes.

Subglacial hydrology of the Fennoscandian and Barents Sea ice sheets [PDF]
The drainage of meltwater beneath ice sheets exerts a fundamental control on ice flow variability, by regulating the lubrication of the ice-bed interface, and determining subglacial sediment shear strengths. This thesis investigates meltwater drainage of

Maternal effects on recruitment of five gadoid species
Abstract Commercial fishing is almost always non‐random and generally removes large and old individuals from fish stocks, thereby reducing age diversity among spawners. Reduced age diversity may result in less stable recruitment. Here, we explore the influence of age diversity (H), mean age of the spawning stock (MA) and sea surface temperature (SST ...
