Incentive Compatibility and the Bargaining Problem [PDF]

open access: possibleEconometrica, 1979
Collective choice problems are studied from the Bayesian viewpoint. It is shown that the set of expected utility allocations which are feasible with incentive-compatible mechanisms is compact and convex, and includes the equilibrium allocations for all other mechanisms.

Other Solutions to Nash's Bargaining Problem

Econometrica, 1975
A two-person bargaining problem is considered. It is shown that under four axioms that describe the behavior of players there is a unique solution to such a problem. The axioms and the solution presented are different from those suggested by Nash.

The Bargaining Problem

Econometrica, 1950
A new treatment is presented of a classical economic problem, one which occurs in many forms, as bargaining, bilateral monopoly, etc. It may also be regarded as a nonzero-sum two-person game. In this treatment a few general assumptions are made concerning the behavior of a single individual and of a group of two individuals in certain economic ...

A New Approach to the Nash Bargaining Problem

Econometrica, 1977
Summary: This paper explores a new approach to the Nash bargaining problem in which the axiom of symmetry is dropped and it is assumed that the final allocation depends on both the status quo and the threat point. The resulting final allocation, unlike that formalized by Nash, cannot be represented by a simple analytic expression; rather, it leads to a

SOME NONSTANDARD FEATURES OF BARGAINING PROBLEMS

International Game Theory Review, 2013
In this paper, we present two real-world situations in which the standard hypotheses of a bargaining problem do not hold, and discuss how to tackle these situations.

Modified solution of the bargaining problem

USSR Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, 1976
Abstract A SOLUTION is offered for the two-person bargaining problem; as distinct from Nash's solution, our solution takes account of the domain of achievable player's results. The necessary propositions are proved, examples are given in which Nash's solution and our modified solution are the same, and the problem of finding a compromise solution is ...

The Bargaining Problem Revisited

Journal of Conflict Resolution, 1982
On the basis of the results obtained by different experiments testing two-person bargaining situations, it is reasonable to assume that under certain circumstances bargainers are more likely to refer to a “minimum utility point” in forming their strategies, and hence reach different agreements than as hitherto suggested in the literature, e.g., the ...
