Vulnerability of Great Barrier Reef plankton to climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Our approach here is to examine potential ways that climate change may alter plankton communities of the GBR in the future, focusing on the physical mechanisms that currently drive plankton productivity and composition.

Effects of internal concentration polarization and membrane roughness on phenol removal in extractive membrane bioreactor

open access: yes, 2018
Recent studies have proved the advantages of novel composite membranes in the extractive membrane bioreactor (EMBR) for recalcitrant organic wastewater treatment.

Research progress on guided tissue regeneration membrane

open access: yesKouqiang hemian waike zazhi
Periodontitis often leads to irreversible damage, and guided tissue regeneration (GTR) remains the primary therapeutic strategy for reconstructing lost hard tissue and periodontal attachment. However, current GTR membranes still face multiple limitations

Structure of an Inner Membrane Protein Required for PhoPQ-Regulated Increases in Outer Membrane Cardiolipin

open access: yesmBio, 2020
The Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium PhoPQ two-component system is activated within the intracellular phagosome environment, where it promotes remodeling of the outer membrane and resistance to innate immune antimicrobial peptides.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Metallic spacers to enhance membrane distillation

open access: yes, 2018
Despite membrane distillation (MD) being well acknowledged as a green technology due to the capability to treat water using waste heat, the efficient use of this heat remains one of the biggest challenge for MD to be cost-effective.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

The Efficacy of Adjunctive Platelet Concentrates in Combined Guided Tissue Regeneration and Bovine Bone Grafting for Intrabony Defects: A Systematic Review

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Dental Research
Objectives Autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) have emerged as biologically active adjuncts in guided tissue regeneration (GTR), aiming to enhance the treatment of intrabony periodontal defects through the local release of growth factors.

Evaluation of bone adhesive barrier membranes for guided bone regeneration: an experimental study in rats

open access: yesEuropean Cells & Materials
Background: Guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedures require barrier membrane fixation to ensure membrane and graft stability. Recently, innovative resorbable fibrous gelatine membranes have been developed with a coating based on poly(2-oxazoline) (POx)

Rubber dam as a barrier membrane in the treatment of periodontal osseous defect

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dental Research, 2012
Background: Barrier membrane helps in periodontal regeneration by preventing the migration of epithelial cells and cells from the gingival connective tissue onto the root surface.
