Low-cost fault-tolerance in barrier synchronizations

Proceedings. 1998 International Conference on Parallel Processing (Cat. No.98EX205), 2002
We show how fault-tolerance can be effectively added to several types of faults in program computations that use barrier synchronization. We divide the faults that occur in practice into two classes, detectable and undetectable, and design a fully distributed program that tolerates the faults in both classes.

Distributed Generalized Dynamic Barrier Synchronization

2011
Barrier synchronization is widely used in shared-memory parallel programs to synchronize between phases of data-parallel algorithms. With proliferation of many-core processors, barrier synchronization has been adapted for higher level language abstractions in new languages such as X10 wherein the processes participating in barrier synchronization are ...

Synchronization Barrier in Database Migration processes

2020 18th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA), 2020
The systems helping us nowadays in some sectors, including health service, transportation, medicine, and many others, have one common thing: data. The data in the mentioned sectors help with the support of decision making, to manage systems, and to prevent dangerous situations. To the increasing amount of the data, a growing demand was related.

Subset barrier synchronization on a private-memory parallel system

Proceedings of the fourth annual ACM symposium on Parallel algorithms and architectures, 1992
A global barrier synchronizes all processors in a parallel system. This paper investigates algorithms that allow disjoint subsets of processors to synchronize independently and in parallel. The user model of a subset barrier is straight forward; a processor that participates in a subset barrier needs to know only the name of the barrier and the number ...

First-class synchronization barriers

Proceedings of the first ACM SIGPLAN international conference on Functional programming, 1996
Our purpose is to promote a second-class mechanism --- the synchronization barrier --- to a first-class value. We introduce the synchron, a novel synchronization mechanism that enables the coordination of a dynamically varying set of concurrent threads that share access to a first-class synchronization token.

Optimization of the GNU OpenMP Synchronization Barrier in MPSoC

2018
Synchronization mechanisms have been central issues in the race toward the computing units parallelization. Indeed when the number of cores increases, the applications are split into more and more software tasks, leading to the higher use of synchronization primitives to preserve the initial application services.

Bridging Interference Barriers in Self-Organized Synchronization

2012 IEEE Sixth International Conference on Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing Systems, 2012
We consider self-organized synchronization in a wireless network, in a setting where there may be transmissions in the network interfering with the reception of synchronization pulses. Persistent existence of interference may prevent synchronization pulses from being heard, which potentially divides the network to multiple connected components ...

Barrier synchronization over multistage interconnection networks

Proceedings of the Second IEEE Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing 1990, 2002
The paper identifies two barrier synchronization techniques that are appropriate for nonuniform memory architectures. The first of these two, the dissemination barrier, is based on a progressive skip-ring of flags. The second, called the reflected-tree barrier, is based on software combining trees.

Magnetic analysis of flux barriers Synchronous Reluctance Motors

2008 18th International Conference on Electrical Machines, 2008
Aim of the paper is to propose an analytical procedure that can be employed during the sizing of the synchronous reluctance motor with ldquoflux barriersrdquo rotor for motor performance prediction and could represent an alternative to the Finite Element approach.
