Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2005
Soil respiration is considered to represent the overall microbial activity reflecting mineralisation of organic matter in soil. It is the most commonly used biological variable in soil studies. In long-term monitoring of forested areas, there is a need for reference values for soil microbiological variables in different forest ecosystems. In this study

Compost Science & Utilization, 2009
The effect of compost on hydrocarbon degradation was determined during a 120-d incubation period. An evaluation of soil basal respiration and dehydrogenase activity as a monitoring instrument for the bioremediation process of soil contaminated with commercial diesel-oil was carried out.

Effects of water amendment on basal and substrate-induced respiration rates of mineral soils
Biology and Fertility of Soils, 1989We studied the effects of amending soils with different volumes of water or glucose solution on respiration rates measured as CO2 evolution. Basal respiration was not significantly affected by the volume of water amendment, but substrate-induced respiration in static soil solutions was significantly reduced by increasing water contents.

Soil CO2 Emission, Microbial Biomass, and Basal Respiration of Chernozems under Different Land Uses
Eurasian Soil Science, 2019The relationships between the soil CO2 emission and microbial properties have been studied in Haplic Chernozem of steppe, forest (oak), bare fallow of the reserve area and in Urbic Technosols of Kursk city. The CO2 emission was monthly measured (May–October) from the soil surface (EMsurf) and two subsoil layers at the depths of 10 and 20 cm (EM10, EM20)

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior
Fentanyl remains the primary cause of fatal overdoses, and its co-use with methamphetamine is a growing concern. Our lab previously demonstrated that racemic methamphetamine could have either respiratory stimulant or depressant effects depending on dose and separately determined by its enantiomers, dextromethamphetamine, and levomethamphetamine ...

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior
Fentanyl remains the primary cause of fatal overdoses, and its co-use with methamphetamine (METH) is a growing concern. We previously demonstrated that racemic METH can either enhance or mitigate opioid-induced respiratory depression (OIRD) dependent upon whether a low or high dose is administered.

Basal rates of soil respiration are correlated with photosynthesis in a mixed temperate forest
Global Change Biology, 2007AbstractMany field studies have demonstrated that soil temperature explains most of the temporal variation in soil respiration (SR). However, there is increasing evidence to suggest that SR is also influenced by current, or recent, photosynthate. Accordingly, seasonal changes in SR nominally attributed to temperature may, in part, be due to seasonality

Respiration test as a possible substitute for the usual basal rate determinations*
The Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (1912), 1927Abstract The author presents that the breath-holding power or capacity, in seconds with lungs deflated, under basal rate conditions, yields results which harmonize closely with the results obtained by means of the metabolors.

Are the soil microbial biomass and basal respiration governed by the climatic regime?
Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1990Abstract Soils in C equilibrium from various climatic regions were sampled to assess the influence of macroclimate on soil microbial biomass (C mic ) and basal respiration (CO 2 -evolution). C mic was measured using the substrate-induced respiration technique.

A three-channel frequency-modulation telemetry system for the noninvasive measurement of cardiac output, rate of respiration, e.c.g. and basal transthoracic admittance of the unconstrained human subject is described. Tetrapolar admittance plethysmography has been employed to obtain the transthoracic admittance and its variations corresponding to the ...
