Chitin-Protein-Based Composites

2010
Fur-like biological material made of densely distributed setae with unknown function has been reported here for some representatives of decapod crustaceans, both marine and fresh water habituating species. Such crabs as Kiwa hirsute, Shinkaia crosnieri as well as Eriocheir sinensis and E.

Nanocellulose-Based Composites

2011
When subjected to acid hydrolysis or mechanical shearing, lignocellulosic fibers yield defect-free, rod-like, or elongated fibrillar nanoparticles. These nanoparticles have particularly received great attention as reinforcing fillers in nanocomposite materials due to their low cost, availability, renewability, light weight, nanoscale dimension, and ...

Carbon based composites

Journal de Chimie Physique, 1984
A review of the various carbon fibre reinforced composites is presented. The fibre properties and their possible translation to the composites are first examined. Chapter 2 is devoted to the present status and the future of carbon matrix composites. Carbon fibre reinforced polymers are examined in Chapters 3 (present status) and 4 (future aspects).

Intermetallic-based composites

Current Opinion in Solid State and Materials Science, 1999
The advances in processing and development of a number of intermetallic-based systems are reviewed. The majority of the recent literature concerns the development of NiAl-based composites even though research on this compound is decreasing. This trend reflects the attitude that composite structures are needed for improved performance of intermetallic ...

Wood-Based Composites

2014
Wood composites are made from various wood or ligno-cellulosic non-wood materials (shape and origin) that are bonded together using either natural bonding or synthetic resin (e.g. thermoplastic or duroplastic polymers), or organic- (e.g. plastics)/inorganic-binder (e.g. cement). This product mix ranges from panel products (e.g., plywood, particleboard,

MoSi2-Base Composites

2006
Addition of 30 to 50 vol% of Si3N4 particulate to MoSi2 eliminated its low temperature catastrophic failure, improved room temperature fracture toughness and the creep resistance. The hybrid composite SCS-6/MoSi2-Si3N4 did not show any matrix cracking and exhibited excellent mechanical and environmental properties.

Template-Based Composition

2016
Approaches in this class have the property that the desired composition is specified in terms of a (possibly structured) set of tasks to be carried out. That is, the structure of the desired composition is already known in advance at least on an abstract level. The remaining problem is to concretize this structure with respect to some criterion such as
