Sawdust based composites

Polymers for Advanced Technologies, 2020
Much sawdust is treated as waste and deposited in landfills; with time, the city landfills have to be made larger and larger and/or deeper and deeper. We have created composites on the basis of dry sawdust and only 3 wt% to 15 wt% of phenylethoxysiloxane binders of two kinds under pressures up to 15 MPa and temperatures up to 220°C. Hot pressing of one

Graphene-based composite materials

Nature, 2006
Graphene sheets--one-atom-thick two-dimensional layers of sp2-bonded carbon--are predicted to have a range of unusual properties. Their thermal conductivity and mechanical stiffness may rival the remarkable in-plane values for graphite (approximately 3,000 W m(-1) K(-1) and 1,060 GPa, respectively); their fracture strength should be comparable to that ...

Nanocellulose-Based Composites

2011
When subjected to acid hydrolysis or mechanical shearing, lignocellulosic fibers yield defect-free, rod-like, or elongated fibrillar nanoparticles. These nanoparticles have particularly received great attention as reinforcing fillers in nanocomposite materials due to their low cost, availability, renewability, light weight, nanoscale dimension, and ...

RNA Composition and Base Pairing

Science, 1966
If RNA may contain a small proportion of adenine-guanine base pairs, these could interrupt the continuity of helical structure in a polynucleotide, in keeping with current theories of RNA structure, and could also account for the experimentally observed tendency for 6-amino bases to equal 6-keto bases and for purines to exceed pyrimidines.

Polypropylene-based ferromagnetic composites

Polymer Bulletin, 2010
Microcomposites of polypropylene (PP) and magnetite (Fe3O4) in different concentration were prepared by one-step melt blending of magnetite powders and polypropylene. Morphology of the composites was studied by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) to investigate magnetite dispersion within the polypropylene matrix.

Intermetallic-based composites

Current Opinion in Solid State and Materials Science, 1999
The advances in processing and development of a number of intermetallic-based systems are reviewed. The majority of the recent literature concerns the development of NiAl-based composites even though research on this compound is decreasing. This trend reflects the attitude that composite structures are needed for improved performance of intermetallic ...

MoSi2-Base Composites [PDF]

open access: possible, 2006
Addition of 30 to 50 vol% of Si3N4 particulate to MoSi2 eliminated its low temperature catastrophic failure, improved room temperature fracture toughness and the creep resistance. The hybrid composite SCS-6/MoSi2-Si3N4 did not show any matrix cracking and exhibited excellent mechanical and environmental properties.

Wood-Based Composites

2014
Wood composites are made from various wood or ligno-cellulosic non-wood materials (shape and origin) that are bonded together using either natural bonding or synthetic resin (e.g. thermoplastic or duroplastic polymers), or organic- (e.g. plastics)/inorganic-binder (e.g. cement). This product mix ranges from panel products (e.g., plywood, particleboard,

DNA Base Composition of Rickettsiae

Science, 1973
There is a small but distinct difference in DNA base composition between the typhus and spotted fever groups of rickettsiae. The molar percentages of guanine plus cytosine for Rickettsia prowazeki , R. typhi , and R.

Compositions based on aminoresins

2005
The results of studies and development of composite materials with specified properties based on amino resins and their modification products are considered. The fields of aminoplast applications and as well as methods of estimating aminoplasts' technological properties are analysed.
