Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Comparative Analysis on Seismic Base Isolation for Integrated Fast Reactor Nuclear Power Plant

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
The fast reactor is one of the principal reactor types in the fourth generation of nuclear power technologies worldwide. The integrated closed-cycle fast reactor nuclear energy system (referred to as the integrated fast reactor) is a nuclear energy ...

Suitability of Seismic Isolation for Buildings Founded on Soft Soil. Case Study of a RC Building in Shanghai

open access: yesBuildings, 2020
Base (seismic) isolation is a promising technology for seismic protection of buildings and other constructions. Nowadays, it is accepted that such a technique is efficient and reliable; however, it has two major limitations: soft foundation soil, and ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Analytical Behavior of Multi-Storied Building with Base Isolation Subjected to Earthquake Loading

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2013
This study involves analysis of multi-storied building to explain the behavior under seismic earthquake loading in two cases, (i.e. with or without base isolation system).

Application of Machine Learning for Predicting Seismic Damage in Base-Isolated Reinforced Concrete Buildings

open access: yesCivilEng
Base isolation is known as a useful and popular technique for seismic upgrading of reinforced concrete buildings. Predicting damage levels based on relative inter-story drift plays an important role for designing optimal base isolation systems.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

COMPARATIVE STUDY REGARDING THE NON-ISOLATED CIRCULAR ABOVE-GROUND PARKING LOT AND THE PARKING LOT ISOLATED BY MEANS OF THE BASE ISOLATION METHOD [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Research and Innovation for Sustainable Society, 2020
This paper studies the beneficial effects of the base isolation method. "The design/consolidation method by base isolation" consists in increasing the fundamental vibration period, decreasing displacement.
