Coherent pair production in deformed crystals with a complex base
We investigate the coherent electron-positron pair creation by high-energy photons in a periodically deformed single crystal with a complex base. The formula for the corresponding differential cross-section is derived for an arbitrary deformation field ...

BASE PAIRING IN 5-CHLOROURIDINE
5-Chlorouridine has been found to crystallize from water with the molecules of the nucleoside arranged in a base-paired, parallel-stranded ribbon. This type of polymer structure has not been previously considered for nucleic acids. We have constructed a model of polyuridylic acid based upon the 5-chlorouridine crystal structure and wish to suggest it ...

Lattice Attacks on Pairing-Based Signatures [PDF]
Practical implementations of cryptosystems often suffer from critical information leakage through side-channels (such as their power consumption or their electromagnetic emanations). For public-key cryptography on embedded systems, the core operation is usually group exponentiation – or scalar multiplication on elliptic curves – which is a sequence of ...

In this article, we tested optimal SNP filtering strategies for accurate parentage assignment and pedigree reconstruction for a wild population of red‐spotted masu salmon, Oncorhynchus masou ishikawae. We found that mid‐point filtering in terms of call rate and minor allele frequency performs well for pedigree reconstruction.

Unnatural imidazopyridopyrimidine:naphthyridine base pairs: selective incorporation and extension reaction by Deep Vent (exo− ) DNA polymerase [PDF]
In our previous communication we reported the enzymatic recognition of unnatural imidazopyridopyrimidine:naphthyridine (Im:Na) base pairs, i.e. ImON:NaNO and ImNO:NaON, using the Klenow fragment exo− [KF (exo−)]. We describe herein the successful results

Evaluating the origin and spread of spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) in Japan
The invasive spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) is native to China and is a serious economic pest in the Republic of Korea and the United States, though it is not considered a pest in Japan. We established a distribution map of L. delicatula in Japan through a comprehensive review of published literature and citizen science reports and analyzed ...

Sequence-specific double-strand cleavage of DNA by penta-N-methylpyrrolecarboxamide-EDTA·Fe(II) [PDF]
In the presence of O2 and 5 mM dithiothreitol, penta-N-methylpyrrolecarboxamide-EDTA·Fe(II) [P5E·Fe(II)] at 0.5 µ M cleaves pBR322 plasmid DNA (50 µ M in base pairs) on opposite strands to afford discrete DNA fragments as analyzed by agarose gel ...

DNA nano-mechanics: how proteins deform the double helix
It is a standard exercise in mechanical engineering to infer the external forces and torques on a body from its static shape and known elastic properties. Here we apply this kind of analysis to distorted double-helical DNA in complexes with proteins.

Thermodynamics of base pairing
The study of the thermodynamics of base pairing is a rapidly expanding field due to its importance for taking advantage of opportunities presented by the growing database of nucleic acid sequences. Both natural and unnatural nucleic acids are being studied.

In this study, we compared three methods for kinship identification using different algorithms in samples of wild Pacific bluefin tuna and generated genotyping data. The three methods resulted in different numbers of inferred kinship pairs for both generated and actual data. Particularly for the half‐sibling pairs, considerable number of false‐positive
