Increases in skin perfusion and blood oxygen in the non‐exercising human limbs during exercise in the heat: Implications for control of circulation

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Blood flow in the inactive limb tissues and skin is widely thought to decline during incremental exercise to exhaustion due to augmented sympathoadrenal vasoconstrictor activity, but direct evidence to support this view is lacking. Here, we investigated the inactive‐forearm haemodynamic (Q̇forearm${\dot{Q}}_{\mathrm{forearm}}$) and oxygenation

Pre‐season friendly match‐play as a double‐edged sword: Performance gains and inflammatory cost in semi‐professional soccer players (a natural experiment)

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Pre‐season training prepares soccer players for competition, but the longitudinal effects of friendly match exposure remain unclear. We investigated whether cumulative late pre‐season match‐play is associated with physiological adaptation in semi‐professional players.

First Report of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum on Basil in Canada

open access: yesPlant Disease, 1997
Wilt of basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) branches was observed in home gardens with a past history of Sclerotinia rot in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, in the summers of 1994 and 1996. The wilt was accompanied by brown, longitudinal discoloration of the stem, with dark brown to purple-colored advancing margins.

The cold‐water immersion recovery–adaptation paradox: Reconciling acute parasympathetic and analgesic benefits with chronic hypertrophy attenuation

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Cold‐water immersion (CWI) is among the most widely used post‐exercise recovery modalities in elite sport and clinical rehabilitation, yet a fundamental paradox now emerges from the evidence: the same protocols that accelerate parasympathetic reactivation and reduce perceived muscle soreness also suppress the molecular and cellular machinery ...
