The behaviour of a two-component backfilling grout used in a Tunnel-Boring Machine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The instantaneous filling of the annulus that is created behind the segment lining at the end of the tail during the TBM advance is an operation of paramount importance.

Stochastic Optimization from Distributed, Streaming Data in Rate-limited Networks

open access: yes, 2018
Motivated by machine learning applications in networks of sensors, internet-of-things (IoT) devices, and autonomous agents, we propose techniques for distributed stochastic convex learning from high-rate data streams.

Variable Batched DGEMM [PDF]

open access: yes2018 26th Euromicro International Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Network-based Processing (PDP), 2018
Many scientific applications are in need to solve a high number of small-size independent problems. These individual problems do not provide enough parallelism and then, these must be computed as a batch. Today, vendors such as Intel and NVIDIA are developing their own suite of batch routines.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

ADAPTIVE BATCHING SCHME FOR MULTICAST NEAR VIDEO-ON-DEMAND (NVOD) SYSTEM

open access: yesJournal of ICT, 2006
Video-on-Demand is becoming most sought after multimedia applications. It is difficult to attain a true video-on-demand (TVOD) system, so near video-on-demand (NVOD) is catching the attention of people.

Enhancing User Experience of Task Assignment in Spatial Crowdsourcing: A Self-Adaptive Batching Approach

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Faced with the explosive demand of real-world applications, spatial crowdsourcing has attracted much attention, in which task assignment algorithms take the dominant role in the past few years.

Optimization of Batch and Semi-batch Reactors

open access: yes, 2013
Abstract Batch and semi-batch reactors are widely used for fine chemical productions. The target in the fine chemical industry is to produce a high quality product and operational optimization is the key-element to match it. This work investigates how batch and semibatch reactors can be optimized in order to increase the yield of a desired product ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Debiasing Crowdsourced Batches [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 21th ACM SIGKDD International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, 2015
Crowdsourcing is the de-facto standard for gathering annotated data. While, in theory, data annotation tasks are assumed to be attempted by workers independently, in practice, data annotation tasks are often grouped into batches to be presented and annotated by workers together, in order to save on the time or cost overhead of providing instructions or

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.
