The polymorphism in the promoter of HSP70 gene is associated with heat tolerance of two congener endemic bay scallops (Argopecten irradians irradians and A. i. concentricus). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) is one kind of molecular chaperones, which plays a key role in protein metabolism under normal and stress conditions. In the present study, the mRNA expressions of HSP70 under normal physiological condition and after ...

Identification of PARPs and their potential role in longevity for larger Argopecten scallops to increase production

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
The bay scallop (Argopecten irradians) is an important species in the fisheries and aquaculture industries. However, the bay scallop’s small size, short lifespan (less than 14 months), and severe inbreeding depression present challenges for its ...

First record of young‐of‐the‐year smooth hammerhead (Sphyrna zygaena) in coastal waters of Galicia, northwest Spain

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The smooth hammerhead (Sphyrna zygaena) is typically considered an oceanic species and is only rarely observed in the cooler coastal waters of the northeastern Atlantic. On 20 December 2024, a juvenile S. zyganea was captured at 25 m depth in the inner Ría de Pontevedra (Rías Baixas, northwest Spain).

Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses of genetic factors influencing adductor muscle coloration in QN Orange scallops

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2019
Background Color polymorphism, a high-valued trait, is frequently observed in molluscan shellfish. The QN Orange scallop, a new scallop strain successively selected from the interspecific hybrids of the bay scallop (Argopecten irradians irradians) and ...

Polymict melt‐bearing breccia dikes in the Morokweng impact structure formed by slip‐induced mechanical mixing of pseudotachylite and cataclasite along large‐displacement impact faults

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract A core drilled through shocked and faulted Archean granitoid gneisses and dolerites in the eroded peak ring of the 70–80 km diameter Morokweng impact structure intersects multiple centimeter‐ to meter‐wide clastic‐matrix breccias containing a polymict clast population of lithic and mineral clasts and altered, millimeter‐ to centimeter ‐size ...

EFFECTS OF THE WATER TEMPERATURE ON TIMING OF SPAWNING AND THE SPAT SETTLING FOR YESSO SCALLOP (MIZUHOPECTEN YESSOENSIS JAY, 1857) IN THE POSYET BAY (PETER THE GREAT BAY, JAPAN SEA)

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2020
The water temperature influence on timing of spawning and the spat settling is considered for yesso scallop (Mizuhopecten (=Patinopecten) yessoensis Jay, 1857) in the Minonosok Bay (Posyet Bay, Peter the Great Bay) on the data of observations in 1970 ...

Tributary‐scale oyster reef restoration in Harris Creek, Maryland: lessons from a decade of planning, implementing, and monitoring

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction In response to the decline of eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica) populations in Chesapeake Bay, a large‐scale restoration initiative was launched in Harris Creek, Maryland, in 2011. This effort marked a shift from fragmented projects toward a coordinated, sanctuary‐based approach to oyster restoration.
