Patient‐reported outcome measures of percutaneous nephrostomy vs JJ stent in obstructive urolithiasis: results of the STent Or NEphrostomy (STONE) randomised controlled trial

open access: yesBJU International, EarlyView.
Objective To compare the effects of percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) and JJ ureteric stent (JJ) for urinary tract decompression in patients with obstructive urolithiasis on health‐related quality of life (HRQoL), pain scores, urinary symptoms, and patient satisfaction.

Lactate Accelerates Early Angiogenesis and Bone Regeneration Through Macrophage M1 Polarisation

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
During the early stage of bone defect healing, lactate accumulates and contributes to increasing NOD1 expression by stabilising HIF1α that in turn triggers a calcium influx, which ultimately polarises macrophages towards the M1 phenotype and accelerates vascularisation of endothelial cells.

Inherited Bleeding Disorders in Pregnancy: Obstetric Management and Outcomes From a Tertiary Care Centre

open access: yesHaemophilia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to evaluate the obstetric management, complications and clinical characteristics of pregnant women diagnosed with hereditary coagulation factor deficiencies at a tertiary obstetric centre over a 10‐year period. Methods We retrospectively reviewed a total of 19 pregnancies in 17 women with hereditary coagulation ...

Miners' Reward Elasticity and Stability of Competing Proof‐of‐Work Cryptocurrencies

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Proof‐of‐Work cryptocurrencies employ miners to sustain the system through algorithmic reward adjustments. We develop a stochastic model of the multicurrency mining and identify conditions for stable transaction speeds. Bitcoin's algorithm requires hash supply elasticity <$<$1 for stability, while ASERT remains stable for any elasticity and ...

Area-Optimized Fully-Flexible BCH Decoder for Multiple GF Dimensions

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Recently, there are increasing demands for fully flexible Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) decoders, which can support different dimensions of Galois fields (GF) operations.

Posterior Cruciate Ligament Tibial Avulsion treated with Open Reduction and Internal Fixation [PDF]

open access: yesMalaysian Orthopaedic Journal, 2015
The optimal treatment for thoracolumbar fractures (TLF) without neurological deficit remains controversial. Majority of the systematic reviews and meta-analyses have evaluated open operative approaches but have yet to compare the outcomes of minimally ...

On the Move to Surgery: A Scoping Review of Patient‐Reported Outcomes for Preoperative Walking Into the Operating Theatre

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Nursing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Although healthcare infrastructure has improved in recent years, the preoperative journey of patients is often accompanied by anxiety. Allowing patients to walk to the operating theatre is a simple, yet underexplored strategy that may enhance their sense of autonomy and reduce anxiety.

Modular Chiral N-Heterocyclic Carbene Ligands for the Nickel-Catalyzed Enantioselective C–H Functionalization of Heterocycles

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2020
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are the ligands of choice in a large variety of transformations entailing different transition metals. However, the number and variety of chiral NHCs suitable as stereo-controlling ligands in asymmetric catalysis remains ...

Birkhoff type decompositions and the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff recursion

open access: yes, 2006
We describe a unification of several apparently unrelated factorizations arisen from quantum field theory, vertex operator algebras, combinatorics and numerical methods in differential equations.

A person‐centered and genetically informed approach toward characterizing multidomain resilience to neighborhood disadvantage in youth

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
Background Examining resilience to adversity across multiple behavioral domains (e.g., psychological well‐being, social functioning) can better characterize positive development and inform novel prevention and intervention efforts. However, few studies have employed person‐centered methods to examine individual profiles of resilience across multiple ...
