EQUILIBRIUM PROFILES OF MODEL BEACHES

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1970
The investigation reported herein covers two aspects of equilibrium beach profiles, namely, (a) the criterion governing their type and (b) their reflection characteristics The problems are first analysed from dimensional considerations and then studied experimentally in laboratory wave flumes using different sizes of quartz, ground walnut shell and ...

Numerical Simulation of Beach Profile Changes

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1986, 1986
This paper presents an overall numerical model for predicting beach profile changes due to waves. The local rate of net on/offshore sediment transport is empirically formulated as a function of the Ursell number and Hallermeier parameter. A sub-model of two-dimensional wave transformation includes the wave shoaling, breaking and damping in a surf zone.

Effect of El Niño on the subaerial beach Playas de Rosarito, B.C., Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 2003
Extensive beaches located near the Mexico-USA border play an important role in the economy of the city of Playas de Rosarito, Mexico. Intense beach erosion occurred during the winter 1998 as a result of a very energetic wave regime associated to ENSO-El ...

SCALE-MODEL RELATIONSHIP OF BEACH PROFILE

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1984
This paper presents a scale-model relationship for the similarity between large and small scale-models in two-dimensional equilibrium beach profiles. Taking large scale-models using large scale equipment as prototypes, the experimental scale of a medium-sized model was gradually varied keeping the grain size ratio of model to prototype constant.

Hydrodynamics and morphodynamics in the swash zone: hydralab III large-scale experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The modelling of swash zone hydrodynamics and sediment transport and the resulting morphodynamics has been an area of very active research over the last decade. However, many details are still to be understood, whose knowledge will be greatly advanced by

A METHOD OF EXTRACTING SHORELINE BASED ON SEMANTIC INFORMATION USING DUAL-LENGTH LiDAR DATA [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2017
Shoreline is a spatial varying separation between water and land. By utilizing dual-wavelength LiDAR point data together with semantic information that shoreline often appears beyond water surface profile and is observable on the beach, the paper ...

Beach Profiles and On-OffShore Sediment Transport

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1980, 1980
The on-offshore sediment transport due to waves on a sloping beach is studied by analyzing the laboratory test data on two-dimensional beach deformation. The net rates of sediment transport both inside and outside the breaker zone are evaluated from beach profile changes and are related to the nondimensional bottom shear stress or the Shields parameter.

Investigating Changes in Aeolian Sediment Transport at Coastal Dunes and Sand Trapping Fences: A Field Study on the German Coast

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
For the restoration and maintenance of beach and dune systems along the coast, knowledge of aeolian sediment transport and its interaction with coastal protection measures is required.

Atlantic County - Little Egg Inlet to Great Egg Harbor Inlet - NJBPN Profile #'s 134-126

open access: yes, 2014
The spring and fall surveys of 2013 were essential in determining the quantitative impact of Hurricane Sandy. All Brigantine sites were surveyed immediately prior to Sandy in October 2012 while Absecon Island’s five locations were done in December, after
