A beam source model for scanned proton beams

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2007
A beam source model, i.e. a model for the initial phase space of the beam, for scanned proton beams has been developed. The beam source model is based on parameterized particle sources with characteristics found by fitting towards measured data per individual beam line.

Scanned Beam Holography

Applied Optics, 1970
The stability time for making a hologram with a cw gas laser is reduced by using a method called scanned beam holography. This new technique reduces the time during which extreme mechanical stability must be maintained in a holographic system. An experiment showing a reduction in stability time by a factor of sixteen illustrates the procedure.

Moving beam helical CT scanning

IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, 1996
Images generated with helical scanning are degraded by partial volume artifacts caused by an increased slice thickness when compared to conventional computed tomography (CT) scanning. The slice thickness for a helical scan is proportional to the sum of the thickness of the fan of radiation and the distance the patient moves during data acquisition. The

Treatment planning for scanned ion beams

Radiotherapy and Oncology, 2004
Since 1997 a radiotherapy unit using fast carbon ions is operational at GSI. An intensity-controlled magnetic raster scanner together with a synchrotron allowing fast energy variation enable a unique method of purely active dose shaping in three dimensions.

Optical metasurfaces for beam scanning in space

Optics Letters, 2014
The concept of a layered metasurface constructed from loop nanoantennas for beam scanning in space is explored. Each layer of the metasurface can be envisioned as a shunt impedance sheet designable by modifying the loop configuration cell by cell. The single and concentric loop nanoantennas made of silver provide capacitive and inductive impedances ...

Moiré topography by slit beam scanning

Applied Optics, 1992
A new method of moiré topography is suggested in which a slit beam is used in a scanning mode to generate moiré fringes. One remarkable feature of this method is that, as opposed to existing shadow and projection types, height differences between two consecutive fringes become constant so that absolute fringe orders need not be identified.

Gated Irradiation With Scanned Particle Beams

International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 2009
To demonstrate mitigation of the interplay effects of scanned particle beams and residual target motion within a gating window by increased overlap of pencil beams.Lateral overlap was increased by increasing the pencil beam widths or by decreasing the distance between the pencil beams (scan grid).

Beam alignment for scanning beam interference lithography

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B: Microelectronics and Nanometer Structures Processing, Measurement, and Phenomena, 2002
By interfering two small diameter Gaussian laser beams, scanning beam interference lithography (SBIL) is capable of patterning linear gratings and grids in resist while controlling their spatial phase distortions to the nanometer level. Our tool has a patterning area that is up to 300 mm in diameter.
