Effect of Harmful Bearing Currents on the Service Life of Rolling Bearings: From Experimental Investigations to a Predictive Model

open access: yesLubricants
This study investigates the effects of harmful bearing currents on the service life of rolling bearings and introduces a model to predict service life as a function of surface roughness. Harmful bearing currents, resulting from electrical discharges, can

Localized asymmetric behavior of common-mode current through bearing balls [PDF]

open access: yes
The high-frequency pulse width modulation in voltage source inverters generates common-mode voltage and current in inverter-fed electrical machine drive systems, leading to high-frequency bearing currents and potential bearing damage. Due to the enclosed

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Vibro-Acoustic Characteristic of A Self Aligning Spherical Journal Bearing due to Eccentric Bore Fault

open access: yes
Self aligning spherical journal bearing is a type of plain bearings which has spherical surface contact. This type of bearing can accommodate a misalignment problem.

WLI, XPS and SEM/FIB/EDS Surface Characterization of an Electrically Fluted Bearing Raceway

open access: yesLubricants
Electrical bearing currents may disturb the performance of the bearings via electro-corrosion if they surpass a limit of ca. 0.1 to 0.3 A/mm2. A continuous current flow, or, after a longer time span, an alternating current or a repeating impulse-like ...

The development and application of ambulatory monitor for measuring weight-bearing during fracture healing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The aim of this study was to measure the weight-bearing during healing in a series of patients with tibial fractures, and to examine how this changed with time post-fracture. Weight-bearing indicates the force through the leg as a percentage of the total

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Bispectrum Analysis of Motor Current Signals for Fault Diagnosis of Reciprocating Compressors

open access: yes, 2009
The induction motor is the most common driver in industry and has been previously proposed as a means of inferring the condition of an entire equipment train, predominantly through the measurement and processing of power supply parameters.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
