Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

The Beauty Ideal: The Effects Of European Standards Of Beauty On Black Women
Black women are particularly vulnerable to the effects of European standards of beauty, because these standards emphasize skin colors and hair types that exclude many black women, especially those of darker skin. Using a social work lens, this article explores the black woman ’s internalization of European beauty standards through family, peers, the ...

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Occidentalisation of Beauty Standards: Eurocentrism in Asia
Beauty standards have long been set in place within society. However the origins of such beauty standards are a topic of discussion and frequently up for debate. Our paper takes a look into the origins, impacts, and implications of beauty standards within various regions of Asia, including Central Asian, South Asia, East Asia, and the Middle East and ...

KIF26B plays an important role in kidney development. We engineered mice lacking the C‐terminal region of KIF26B and found severe kidney defects, including bilateral renal agenesis, similar to full Kif26b knockout mice. The mutation disrupted nephron progenitor condensation and reduced Gdnf‐Wnt11 signaling, showing that the KIF26B C‐terminal region is ...

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Transcripts enriched in codons that trigger P‐site tRNA‐mediated mRNA decay possess stable mRNA
PTMD codons were first described by Mendel et al. as mediators of an mRNA decay pathway dependent on the human protein CNOT3, homologous to yeast Not5. Our findings confirm that PTMD codons destabilize transcripts; however, unlike in yeast, the human pathway specifically targets and slightly destabilizes primarily stable mRNAs.
