Attentional M100 gain modulation localizes to auditory sensory cortex and is deficient in first‐episode psychosis

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 44, Issue 1, Page 218-228, January 2023., 2023
The use of magnetoencephalography and the Human Connectome Project multimodal parcellation revealed precise cortical areas underlying attention modulation of auditory sensory activity in healthy individuals and impairments in early psychosis. The sensory reduction and attention modulation impairment indicate pathophysiology proximal to disease onset ...

A neuroeconomic theory of rational addiction and nonlinear time-perception [PDF]

open access: yesNeuro Endocrinol Lett. 2011;32(3):221-225, 2011
Neuroeconomic conditions for "rational addiction" (Becker and Murphy, 1988) have been unknown. This paper derived the conditions for "rational addiction" by utilizing a nonlinear time-perception theory of "hyperbolic" discounting, which is mathematically equivalent to the q-exponential intertemporal choice model based on Tsallis' statistics.

Psychotherapists' interoceptive awareness and accuracy

open access: yesCounselling and Psychotherapy Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study examined the different dimensions of interoception in psychotherapists to better understand the significance of interoception in therapeutic work. Methods Data on objectively defined interoceptive accuracy, response confidence and subjectively assessed interoceptive awareness were collected from psychotherapists.

Inhibition of Nitric Oxide Synthesis Prevents the Effects of Intermittent Social Defeat on Cocaine-Induced Conditioned Place Preference in Male Mice

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
We have previously observed that mice exposed to social defeat stress are more sensitive to cocaine in the conditioned place preference (CPP) paradigm. In this context, it has been suggested that the nitric oxide (NO) pathway plays a role in the effects ...

Objective Features Extracted from Motor Activity Time Series for Food Addiction Analysis Using Machine Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This study investigates machine learning algorithms to identify objective features for diagnosing food addiction (FA) and assessing confirmed symptoms (SC). Data were collected from 81 participants (mean age: 21.5 years, range: 18-61 years, women: 77.8%) whose FA and SC were measured using the Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS).

Contemporary management of pain in cirrhosis: Toward precision therapy for pain

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Chronic pain is highly prevalent in patients with cirrhosis and is associated with poor health‐related quality of life and poor functional status. However, there is limited guidance on appropriate pain management in this population, and pharmacologic treatment can be harmful, leading to adverse outcomes, such as gastrointestinal bleeding ...

Cue-Triggered Addiction and Natural Recovery [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we propose a model of natural recovery, a widespread yet unexplained aspect of addictive behavior, starting from the recent theory developed by Bernheim and Rangel (2004).
