Knowledge based cloud FE simulation of sheet metal forming processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The use of Finite Element (FE) simulation software to adequately predict the outcome of sheet metal forming processes is crucial to enhancing the efficiency and lowering the development time of such processes, whilst reducing costs involved in trial-and ...

Roles for simulation in behavioral research [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 5th conference on Winter simulation - WSC '71, 1971
Simulation models have been used in a variety of ways for behavioral research. This paper discusses appropriate and inappropriate roles for the technique in such research.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Evaluating diverse patterns of occupant behavior regarding control-based activities in energy performance simulation

open access: yesFrontiers of Architectural Research, 2018
Simulation is recognized as an effective tool for building energy performance assessment during design or retrofit processes. Nevertheless, simulation models yield deviating outcomes from the actual building performance and a significant portion of this ...

Social Ethic Behavior Simulation Project [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Ethics has usually been considered as the domain of the intrinsic personal belief. Some even claimed that no objective knowledge of ethics is possible. We propose a quite new way of approaching the problem.

Agent-Based Modeling of Taxi Behavior Simulation with Probe Vehicle Data

open access: yesISPRS Int. J. Geo Inf., 2018
Taxi behavior is a spatial–temporal dynamic process involving discrete time dependent events, such as customer pick-up, customer drop-off, cruising, and parking.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Fire Behavior Simulation from Global Fuel and Climatic Information

open access: yes, 2017
Large-scale fire danger assessment has become increasingly relevant in the past few years, and is usually based on weather information. Still, fuel characteristics also play an important role in fire behavior.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Realistic following behaviors for crowd simulation [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, 2012
AbstractWhile walking through a crowd, a pedestrian experiences a large number of interactions with his neighbors. The nature of these interactions is varied, and it has been observed that macroscopic phenomena emerge from the combination of these local interactions.
