Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

A Modified Social Force Model for Pedestrian Behavior Simulation at Signalized Crosswalks

open access: yes, 2014
In this study, a microscopic simulation model is developed for pedestrian behavior analysis at signalized crosswalks. It takes into account the special characteristics of pedestrian crossing behavior, such as group evasion with surrounding pedestrians ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Comment on "Non-Mean-Field Behavior of the Contact Process on Scale-Free Networks"

open access: yes, 2007
Recently, Castellano and Pastor-Satorras [1] utilized the finite size scaling (FSS) theory to analyze simulation data for the contact process (CP) on scale-free networks (SFNs) and claimed that its absorbing critical behavior is not consistent with the ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

WALKING BEHAVIOR OF INDIVIDUALS WITH AND WITHOUT DISABILITIES AT RIGHT-ANGLE TURNING FACILITY

open access: yesJournal of Accessibility and Design for All, 2017
Urban designers need to carefully consider the walking behavior of pedestrians within different walking environments to accommodate their needs. Microscopic studies of the walking behavior of pedestrians have been conducted to understand walking behavior,

Analysis of the Fracture of Reinforced Concrete Flat Elements Subjected to Explosions. Experimental Procedure and Numerical Validation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Many of the material models most frequently used for the numerical simulation of the behavior of concrete when subjected to high strain rates have been originally developed for the simulation of ballistic impact.

Many-body interactions and melting of colloidal crystals

open access: yes, 2008
We study the melting behavior of charged colloidal crystals, using a simulation technique that combines a continuous mean-field Poisson-Boltzmann description for the microscopic electrolyte ions with a Brownian-dynamics simulation for the mesoscopic ...

Molecular dynamics simulation for all

open access: yesNeuron, 2018
The impact of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in molecular biology and drug discovery has expanded dramatically in recent years. These simulations capture the behavior of proteins and other biomolecules in full atomic detail and at very fine temporal

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.
