The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Prijevod usmenih strahova u pisanu tjeskobu ili poetički učinci predajnih elemenata u romanima Živi i mrtvi Josipa Mlakića i Črna mati zemla Kristiana Novaka

open access: yesPoznańskie Studia Slawistyczne, 2018
Belief legends, especially those regarding fear and its realization, transformation and embodiment, are important narrative substrate. Forms of belief legends and/or their segments are often, in many ways and functions, intertextually inscribed in ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Dominance of capacities by k-additive belief functions [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we deal with the set of $k$-additive belieffunctions dominating a given capacity. We follow the lineintroduced by Chateauneuf and Jaffray for dominating probabilities and continued by Grabisch for general $k$-additive measures.First, we ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

A Cultural Algorithm for Optimal Design of Truss Structures

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
A cultural algorithm was utilized in this study to solve optimal design of truss structures problem achieving minimum weight objective under stress and deflection constraints. The algorithm is inspired by principles of human social evolution.

Numerical Representations of Acceptance

open access: yes, 2013
Accepting a proposition means that our confidence in this proposition is strictly greater than the confidence in its negation. This paper investigates the subclass of uncertainty measures, expressing confidence, that capture the idea of acceptance, what ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
