Subtypes of Bence-Jones Proteins
The Journal of Immunology, 1965Summary Antigenic differences among Bence-Jones proteins within each major type have been demonstrated. This heterogeneity appears to be independent of the Inv (a) type. At least two subtypes were demonstrated among the proteins in the panels of Type K and Type L proteins studied.

Antigenic Uniqueness of Bence Jones Proteins
Nature, 1965MUCH information about the structure of the human immunoglobulins has derived from investigations of the antigenic characteristics of Bence Jones proteins. The two major antigenic groups of Bence Jones proteins have immunological counterparts in the light (L) chains of the normal population of γ2-, γ1A- and γ1M-globulins1.

Bence Jones Proteins: Malignant or Benign?
New England Journal of Medicine, 1982Over a century elapsed between Henry Bence Jones' discovery of a urinary protein with unusual thermal properties in patients with multiple myeloma1 and Edelman and Gally's demonstration2 that this curious protein was the light polypeptide portion (kappa or lambda chain) of the immunoglobulin molecule.

The isolation and purification of Bence-Jones proteins from the urine of patients with plasmacytoma permitted a more precise immunological, chemical and physical differentiation of these proteins. Immunologically to start with the η and λ types of Bence-Jones proteins were distinguished, a division which soon was shown to be the general ...

Small-angle scattering of Bence-Jones protein
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Specialized Section on Biophysical Subjects, 1964Abstract Solutions of Bence-Jones protein in water have been studied at concentrations of 1–4%. By measuring the absolute intensity of scattered radiation, a molecular weight of 43000 was found in complete agreement with ultracentrifuge results; in addition, an internal hydration of 0.32 g water per g protein was determined.

Detection of Bence-Jones protein in practice
Annals of Clinical Biochemistry: International Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2000The monoclonal gammopathies are characterized by the presence in serum and/or urine of a monoclonal, intact immunoglobulin or fragment, a so-called monoclonal component, produced by a B-cell clone that has undergone a genetic transformation. The clinical conditions accompanying monoclonal components encompass a wide spectrum, ranging from an entirely ...
