Two-dimensional discrete element modelling of bender element tests on an idealised granular material [PDF]
The small-strain (elastic) shear stiffness of soil is an important parameter in geotechnics. It is required as an input parameter to predict deformations and to carry out site response analysis to predict levels of shaking during earthquakes. Bender element testing is often used in experimental soil mechanics to determine the shear (S-) wave velocity ...

Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Effect of earthquake excitation on circular tunnels: Numerical and experimental study
This paper studies the behaviour of circular tunnel subjected to dynamic excitation. Tunnels with three different diameters were selected to perform the shake table test at three different covers. The dry sandy soil was used for testing.

The Habitable-zone Planet Finder Calibration System
We present the design concept of the wavelength calibration system for the Habitable-zone Planet Finder instrument (HPF), a precision radial velocity (RV) spectrograph designed to detect terrestrial-mass planets around M-dwarfs.

The Role of Calcitonin Gene‐Related Peptide in High‐Altitude Headache: A Prospective Field Study
ABSTRACT Objective High‐altitude headache (HAH) is a common neurological condition associated with rapid ascent to high altitude. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HAH remain incompletely understood. Calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP), a neuropeptide implicated in migraine pathophysiology, may play a key role in the pathophysiology of ...

Study on Shear Wave Attenuation Laws in Granular Sediments Based on Bender Element Test Simulations
The propagation characteristics of shear waves in granular sediments are usually used to assess the dynamic response and liquefaction potential of marine engineering foundations.

Determination of the force necessary by experiment to bend schedule 40 pipe [PDF]
The tube bending process consists of plastically deforming the material by applying bending loads to the element until its yielding is overcome. Mechanical bending tests help determine the properties of a material, properties that are used to design the ...

Time-Reversal Violating Schiff Moment of 225Ra [PDF]
We use the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock method, allowing all symmetries to be broken, to calculate the time-reversal-violating nuclear Schiff moment (which induces atomic electric dipole moments) in the octupole-deformed nucleus 225Ra.
