Analysis of the Influence of Macro-Bending Loss in Single-Mode Optical Fibers on OFDR Signal Quality [PDF]

open access: yesSensors
This study investigates the influence of optical loss induced by the macro-bending of optical fibers on the signal quality of an optical frequency-domain reflectometry (OFDR) system.

Twisted Dual-Cycle Fiber Optic Bending Loss Characteristics for Strain Measurement [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2018
The intensity-based fiber optic sensor (FOS) head using twisted dual-cycle bending loss is proposed and experimentally demonstrate. The bending loss characteristics depend on the steel wire radius, number, and distance.

Theoretical Analysis of Temperature-corrected Single-mode Fiber Macro-bending Loss Characteristics

open access: yesGuangtongxin yanjiu, 2021
In order to study the relationship between the macro-bending loss characteristics of the single-mode fiber and the temperature change, the thermo-optical effect and thermal expansion effect are corrected according to the theoretical formula proposed by ...

Surface Plasmon Resonance and Bending Loss-Based U-Shaped Plastic Optical Fiber Biosensors [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2018
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a large and diverse bacteria group that inhabits the intestinal tract of many mammals. Most E. coli strains are harmless, however some of them are pathogenic, meaning they can make one sick if ingested. By being in the feces

Design and Analysis of a Large Mode Field Area and Low Bending Loss Multi-Cladding Fiber with Comb-Index Core and Gradient-Refractive Index Ring [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2023
The large mode field area fiber can raise the tolerance of power, and high requirements for the bending characteristics of optical fibers are needed. In this paper, a fiber composed of a comb-index core, gradient-refractive index ring, and multi-cladding

Equivalent Refractive Index Modeling and Multidomain Characterization of the Temperature Response of Loss in Fiber-Optic Macro-Bends [PDF]

open access: yesSensors
In the oil and gas industry, fiber-optic telemetry is hindered by transmission degradation from high-temperature macro-bend loss. In this study, to address the lack of a unified model, we develop a numerical framework incorporating both bending-dominated

The Interfacial Friction Loss of Prestressed Carbon-Fiber Tendons in a Bending State

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
Carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is ideal for bridge reinforcement due to its high strength, light weight, and corrosion resistance. Studies on the friction loss of CFRP tendons in a bending state form an important part of advancing the application

Hollow antiresonant fibers with low bending loss

open access: yesOptics Express, 2014
We first use numerical simulations to show that bending losses of hollow antiresonant fibers are a strong function of their geometrical structure. We then demonstrate this by fabricating a hollow antiresonant fiber which presents a bending loss as low as 0.25 dB/turn at a wavelength of 3.35 μm and a bend radius of 2.5 cm.
