Abstract Active forces applied to a vibrating beam structure may be driven to cancel propagating and evanescent waves entering the region beyond their point of application, thereby preventing those waves from carrying the effects of an external disturbance into that region.

Nonlinear bending vibrations of a rotating rod

The vibrations of a rod with a circular cross section revolving around its axis with immovable supports in the longitudinal direction are examined. A harmonic load orthogonal to the longitudinal axis and located in a plane rotating jointly with it acts on the rod. The geometrical nonlinearity caused by medial line length variation is taken into account.

Hybrid-stress finite element method is applied for analysis of bending and vibration of composite laminated plates in this paper. Firstly, based on the modified complementary principle, a rectangular hybrid-stress plate bending element is presented which applies to analysis of laminates.
