Repeated Pleistocene Permafrost Episodes in the Western Pannonian Basin

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Concerning the study of past periglacial processes, the Pannonian Basin is a key area as it contains the southernmost frost polygons found in Central Europe. The presence or absence of permafrost is still, however, a matter of debate, and data on the timing of frost action are also scarce.

Activated Bentonite for Physical, Mechanical, and Durability Properties of Concrete—A Review

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering
Bentonite mostly exists in many counties and studies reported employment of activated bentonite in the concrete improves concrete performance more than using raw bentonite. However, it is not well-known which range of bentonite activation temperature and

The colloidal stability of raw bentonite deformed mechanically by ultrasound

open access: yesJournal of Saudi Chemical Society, 2010
The present study examined the effect of sonication time on the particle–size and the colloidal stability (i.e. point of zero charge, PZC and zeta potential, ζ) of raw bentonite (RB) from Saudi Arabia.

Solid-Phase Extraction Followed by Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry for Revealing the Effects of the Application of Bentonite, Tannins, and Their Combination during Fermentation in the Production of White Wine

open access: yesChemosensors, 2023
To investigate the effects of the application of bentonite, tannins, and their combination in alcoholic fermentation, Malvazija istarska (Vitis vinifera L.) white grape must was treated with 95 g/L of bentonite, 25 g/L of a hydrolysable tannin ...

Internal Structure, Kinematics, and Prehistory of Frozen Debris Lobe‐A (FDL‐A), Brooks Range, Alaska

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Frozen Debris Lobe‐A (FDL‐A)—one of hundreds of FDLs in the Brooks Range of northern Alaska—is a slow‐moving landslide in permafrost that has been the subject of research since 2008 due to its close proximity to the Dalton Highway. Here, we synthesize more than a decade's worth of climate and surface measurements of monitored FDLs, and the ...

Purified Bentonite and Aliquat 336-Bentonite for Removal of Lead and Cadmium Ions from Aqueous Solutions [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
The presence of multiple contaminants often complicates treatment processes due to possible interactions and competition for binding sites. Focusing on a binary system allows researchers to explore these complexities and develop more effective treatment ...

Acid Resistant and Highly Silver Selective Membranes Based on Charged Nanoporous 2D‐Materials

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
In this work, new membranes based on charged & nanoporous nanosheets with unprecedented selectivity to silver versus a wide range of other metallic ions are reported. Furthermore, a demonstrated and lead specific intralamellar lead pathway is demonstrated. A potential applicability for ubiquitous silver in WEEE is validated.

Sequential Reduction of Chromite Pellets Using Hydrogen and Silicon Carbide for Carbon Emission Abatement During Ferrochrome Production

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
H2 prereduction selectively metallizes Fe in UG2 chromite pellets at 1100°C, while silicon carbide becomes active at 1300°C to convert remaining Cr2O3 to carbides and promote Cr metallization. By separating the roles of H2 and SiC, the sequential route reaches up to 65.7% Cr metallization and suppresses in‐furnace CO generation by ≈75% versus ...

Suction characteristics of compacted zeolite-bentonite and sand–bentonite mixtures

open access: yesWaste Management & Research: The Journal for a Sustainable Circular Economy, 2014
Soil suction is one of the most important parameters describing soil moisture conditions for unsaturated soils used in landfill liners. However, few studies have been conducted on the suction characteristics of compacted zeolite–bentonite mixtures (ZBMs) and sand–bentonite mixtures (SBMs), which are proposed for use as liner materials.
