Palladium-catalyzed tandem reaction to construct benzo[c]phenanthridine: application to the total synthesis of benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids

Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2011
A concise and efficient synthesis of benzo[c]phenanthridines was accomplished by the palladium-catalyzed ring-opening coupling of azabicyclic alkene with o-iodobenzoates, followed by tandem cyclization. The strategy was successfully applied in the total synthesis of benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids such as sanguinarine, chelerythrine, nitidine and ...

Antimalarial benzo[c]phenanthridines

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2005
Analogues of the antimalarial alkaloid nitidine have been prepared with high potency against both chloroquine-sensitive and -resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum in vitro. Simple modifications, using an established synthetic route, resulted in an analogue with IC(50) below 5ng/mL against a chloroquine-sensitive strain of P. falciparum.

Benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids fromCorydalis incisa

Archives of Pharmacal Research, 2000
Six benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids, corynoline (1), acetylcorynoline (2), corynoloxine (3), luguine (4), 6-oxocorynoline (5), and 12-hydroxycorynoloxine (6) were isolated from the aerial parts of Corydalis incisa, and 6 was isolated for the first time from nature. The structure was elucidated by NMR techniques.

Quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids

Collection of Czechoslovak Chemical Communications, 1990
This review deals with the fully aromatic quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids in several aspects. Firstly nomenclature principles for numbering fused heterocycles are given. Then the richest botanical sources of quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridines are mentioned as well as isolation, separation and determination methods are presented.

Fluorescence Properties of Selected Benzo[c]phenanthridines

Journal of Fluorescence, 2014
The fluorescence properties of selected benzo[c]phenanthridines (BPs) were examined. The effect of structure, pH and solvent on the fluorescence properties has been investigated. It was found out that the presence of charged iminium nitrogen significantly decreased the fluorescence of the compounds.

A versatile synthesis of benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids

Journal of the Chemical Society, Perkin Transactions 1, 1996
Suzuki coupling between 2-bromo-1-formamidonaphthalenes and arylboronic acids is the key step in a versatile synthesis of benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids, illustrated by the synthesis of norallonitidine, nornitidine, noravicine, allonitidine, nitidine and avicine.

Benzo[c]phenanthridine bases and their antituberculosis activity

Medicinal Research Reviews, 2000
The antituberculosis activity of fully-aromatized quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridine bases prepared in our laboratory was tested under the Tuberculosis Antimicrobial Acquisition and Coordinating Facility (TAACF) program. This review summarizes our syntheses of these bases and discusses their structure-activity relationships against primary tuberculosis.
